Arnold and Mel glad you guys made it sorry we didn't get to talk much.  I got there later than I had expected, right before lunch was served.  Missed you guys before you left after lunch.  Paul, I saw you briefly from a distance but didn't get to say hello.

I did spend quite a bit of time with Railride both before and after lunch.  We were some of the last to leave around 3:30.

So sorry I missed you - as I told Arnold and Mel, the really good pain med I took earlier was wearing off and I could feel my bad knee... not a pleasant experience after being on my feet for over two hours!!! I’m having the second replacement done in April, so hopefully next year I’ll be in much better shape.

Paul they really do like bridges.  Ben operated the lift bridge and the bascule bridge for some of us die-hards that stayed late.

Can you 'veterans' of Trainstock remember your first visit?  I was able to experience that amazement this morning upon walking into this fantastic set up!  Sure, I've seen the many photos and videos that depict this place and quite well. But the impact of a first visit cannot be duplicated any other way.

Nice images above Paul. Here are a few I caught today to add to the merriment. Hopefully I got close in for some of the amazing detail these fellas have created.

 

Thanks Sam. Between the two of us, we’d make one good photographer - I seemed to just take wide shots, probably due to the enormous scale of the layout, and you got in to some of the incredible detail of the layout. But even taken together, I don’t think they begin to cover exactly how amazing a job the HiRailers have done.

Next time, I have to find a decent video camera to get some shots of the trains actually running!!!

Doug Pitney (aka Todd Architectural Models) had a display of some of his offerings for sale at Trainstock... I picked up a sign I ordered to place on two of his warehouse flats I have on my layout...

Got in at 1030 and left at 330 since NJT buses were starting to run on modified schedules despite all of this "snow" around Manhattan is only going to be rain.  Barely made my NJT197 bus transfer back to PABT with maybe 20 seconds to spare.

My route to and from was the Q, car 9452 - NJT 190D - NJT 704B (lets out 2 blocks of NJHR) and then NJT 704B - NJT 197 - Q, car 8828

Thanks again to Ben, Merrill, Jim, Bob, Chef Vinny, and the rest of the NJHR crew for providing us a place for camaraderie and good food.  The club's other NYC motorman was a cool dude too, though I forgot his name and he isn't on the website. Had nice conversation many, especially at lunch. There has been a lot of additions and changes to the layout since I last visited back at Trainstock III. I was impressed with how flawlessly the trains ran for over 5 hours straight.

I took a lot of photos including two pano's from the overlook. I forgot to get more images of the GCT board on the wall.  Glad it was saved.  The album is located here:

Thanks for posting the great videos. Could you tell me what type of camera you used to take them.

Am bummed that I listened to the weathermans' prediction of several ( 3 to 5 inches) of snow.  Darn, that kept me home and away from the NJ Hirailers beer......usually I am the one hounding Ben or Alex to get "the suds flowing"....maybe next year or later on at this brand new 2019!

We had less people because of the weather but we ran out of beer at 3 PM   Go figure

iPhone XR for everything.

Thanks for the info Dave... unfortunately, my iPhone is a couple of generations behind yours (and a couple of inches smaller). The newer iPhone cameras have incredible clarity.

Hmmmm, every year we get pics of the guys around the tables chowing down! No food pics this year?? Especially the eggplant!!
