I have a AF 15B-110 watt transformer that I'm using to set up

my trains with for the Christmas holidays. However, when turned on

I have no control of the speed, nor can I (using the control handle)

change direction. I have other transformers I can use that operate fine,

but I would like to know how I can fix this issue. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your carbon roller is gone or not making contact with the secondary windings.

Could also be the control arm(with handle locked down) inside is not properly lined up with the copper carbon roller arm. There would be no downward pressure being forced on the roller arm to make contact with the secondary windings.

You are going to have to remove the cover to be sure. If you are not confident with electrical, get someone who is to do this.

I think you understand this, but you are connecting to the accessories terminal (the left terminal at 15v).  There is no control of that terminal by the handle.

If you go to page 14 of this document, an AF transformer like yours shows how the left terminal is for accessoroies - and thus you need to have it attached to middle and right terminals.

As albertrains suggest, have a reputable repair shop fix it.  Change out the cord while you have the thing open.  Only a few more $ for added security.
