The Japanese were setting today's standards in detail in the 1970's; brass produced after 1980 is considered contemporary is design and detail. What has made improvement since the 1980's is found in the drive systems and technique (less likely to have parts falling off after the 1980's). By the 1990's most if not all importers started using drive systems and design/detail just same as today. 1990's was CAD and marked a new era of the design phase of models. Today's 3D environments are making average builders found in the 00's and 90's on par with the best builders such as the late Ajin, Samhongsa, OCS Microcast, MS Models, or FM Train Model from the 1980's and 1990's.

I agree thanks Trinkle Trains for sharing.

Trinkle-Trains model is the finest GP60M ever produced in O scale and probably the best in any scale N-O. If a museum curator was in seek of this prototype for an exhibit this is on his or her radar screen... A near perfect scale model in a production piece a true work of art and yes produced by the absolute master craftsmen of Ajin Precision. Atlas O did a nice knock-off (with 10" diameter grab irons) likely from borrowed drawings produced by Ajin in conjunction with EMD/OMI.

Thanks Guys! Yeah, I Like'em!  Interesting fact: "I found these two in a dusty part of a Pawn Shop in Las Vegas Nevada a few years ago! They didn't know what they had. - Definitely a great score! Needless to say I POPPED THOSE TAGS PIRATE TREASURE STYLE!

Brass is good...HO Brass is easy to get...finding Quality O Scale Brass is harder...

finding the right prototypes gets even harder...in the right roadnames challenging...

scoring Santa Fe and in Warbonnet gets you into another game all together! (as the good people from America's City; New Yorkers say: Forget About it!!")

Hey...It's On!!!

Rick, I agree that these are definitely a great score! I found an old magazine ad from 1994 showing these on the rear cover. About 1995 I saw an A and B unit at a train show on an modular O scale layout and they were absolutely stunning! I remember them well because Overland was the only game in town in any scale if you wanted models of the current, at that time (1995), GP60m/b prototypes, and it was only my second time seeing O scale 2 rail.

I was modeling in HO scale at the time and if you didn't go the Overland brass route, you had to build these from Railpower shells with Athearn drives, Microscale decals, and a lot of patience!

I have an O scale version like yours and it is a nicely detailed and smooth runner. At 5lbs 2oz, it pulls very well and feels right at that weight.

Nice post Superpower!

Glad you got one as well...I know of a guy with an A-B-B-A he won't sell.

But that's really ok as it's Geep intermodal overkill for a guy like me modeling Colorado's coal hauling Joint Line,  Still, beautiful models by OMI.  Are you the guy (or do you know the guy?) with the YouTube O Scale OMI Super Fleet videos by any chance?  I always enjoy watching that set of 2 videos.  Those diesels look good and have been DCC'd with some early Tsunami HO DCC boards (I believe) - I'd like to know more - especially how he gets around possible shorts using the very low HO board Ohm ratings.  It's one of the currently few, yet growing shared DCC Brass initiatives out there.  I'm always looking for best practice in O Scale!
