My hometown of Murfreesboro, TN has a lot of good things. We have the CSX line from Nashville to Chattanooga and we have a great greenway system that sort of follows that line. It allows me to combine my two of my favorite pastimes, railfanning and walking for exercise. Sundays are usually not a good time to see trains, especially in the afternoon. However, today, while walking on the greenway, I watched a loaded southbound unit coal train led by CSX#917. There was a mid train DPU. It was probably headed towards Georgia Power's plant Sherer. About an hour later, I watched a northbound mixed freight. It had about every kind of car in the consist except for refrigerator cars. CSX has an on-line customer called International Paper here which still receives boxcars. Lately, it has been receiving a lot of boxcars. Today, they had eight boxcars. Some reporting marks were ABOX, RBOX, AGR, COER (that's a new one on me) of course, CSX . When was the last time any of you saw that many boxcars on a business siding? Like Charlie Daniels once said, "It's good to be alive and in Tennessee".

I'll second that! I reside in Nashville, TN and have since 1970 with a brief nine-year hiatus in Charlotte, NC. GLAD to be back in Music City, USA, home of the Grand Old Opry and major recording studios!

Are you sure about the coal train's destination? Powder River to Scherer is a BNSF - NS operation. CSX rails don't get anywhere near Plant Scherer. Are they handing off trains to NS somewhere for delivery?
Have you tried a VHF scanner? If I recall, the road frequency is 161.37 for CSX. Lots of good radio chatter on several CSX frequencies here in Nashville. I use a Uniden base/mobile HomePatrol II with a telescoping antenna. Just a suggestion. ☺
Nick and Tinplate Art,
I meant to say Plant Bowen instead of Plant Sherer. Plant Bowen is on CSX and can been seen from a major state highway in Northeast Georgia. I guess I had Sherer on my mind since that was the name of my mother's family of origin. Plant Sherer was named for a one time President of Georgia Power Company. I have wondered if I was distantly related to him. Sorry for the mix-up.
