I stopped by Nicholas Smith trains and picked up the Lion Chief Universal Remote.  I did this because I read on the Lionel page that the new version 1.1 firmware would run all LionChief engines including my older Polar Express and Broadway Limited. So when I got home, I opened the package, installed that batteries and downloaded the updater app. I followed the on screen directions and the app updated my new remote in just a few minutes. I then took it to my Christmas layout and followed the programming instructions in the manual.  After two tries for the Polar Express on button 1 and two tries for the  Broadway Limited, I succeeded in pairing the older engines to the remote.

Generally, it was nice to run the two with one remote. I did notice that there was a slight delay between a button push and the response. The throttle was very slightly delayed in comparison to the original remotes. All in all I am happy with the purchase and I am glad that the update and pairing went as instructed with little trouble. Very nice job Lionel. B595F801-500E-47EC-B2DC-2C83A600B118

Mike,

Thanks for the update.  Works if you have Apple.  I have android and pc.  Had to download to chrome then convert the app file.  The conversion software adds a bunch of stuff that I don't want.  The real problem is I couldn't find the file that contained the updater app.  So, it didn't work.

I'm not all that computer savvy when it comes to apps.  Maybe I did something wrong...

Will it now work with the original Thomas and friends LC locomotives?

Yes, it will work with all LionChief locos we've made.

We're working on an Android version of the updating APP. Should be ready near end of January. Otherwise, using the iOS APP is the only current way to do the upgrade.

Dave Olsen,

I do not use the APP's, will the new Lionel Universal Remote work right out of the box on all of the LC and LC+ Trains?  I have the Lionel Hallmark Toy Maker Santa Express Christmas train and am considering the purchase of another LC Train.

If the Universal Remote you purchased has already been upgraded then yes.  Otherwise you will have to get it upgraded.  Many of the forum sponsors have indicated they have updated any in stock. I would ask before you purchase one if it has the latest code.

The ones Lionel updated has an orange dot on the box and the rear of the remote.  The shops have been marking the ones updated with some kind of sticker at minimal on the box.
