Hi Marty,

We've released the newest update to the iOS version of the OTA App today. Still working on the Android version. A few bugs there that we're stuck on.

The update includes what you mention.

  • Adds functionality of running ABA (and similar) consists. Run an ABA set on one channel while being able to run single engines on the other two channels.
    • V1.1 of the code can only run a total of 3 Bluetooth devices. So if you have an ABA set running on channel 1, you would not be able to run anything on channels 2 and 3. This update fixes that. It can now run up to 5 or 6 devices. So you can have an ABA on channel 1, a Polar Express engine with a Polar Announcement Coach on channel 2, and another locomotive on channel 3.
    • If you try to run more than 5 or 6 total devices at once with the UR with the new code, weird things start to happen. It'll drop engines at times. We programmed it so that if it does have to drop an engine for a few seconds, it'll drop a dummy engine first. That way your train won't screech to a halt. Not being able to run more than 5 or 6 reliably is simply a hardware limitation of the BLE chip we're using.
  • Various bug fixes for increased reliability.
    • There were still a couple of minor instances in special circumstances when an engine could disconnect at random, etc. We fixed these up.

V1.2 will be the last update this year for the Universal Remote. It has really evolved into a wonderful product that we're proud of. We're still considering some additional features for a V1.3 that may come out in 2019. Some exciting stuff in-store.

Thanks!

Interesting that it still doesn't display progress on the iPad.  It connected and correctly identified 1.1 in the remote, and started the copying step.  It's still doing that, and it's been at about 5 minutes.  WAIT!  The process finished, so the only flaw seems to be no progress indication on the iPad.

Try scrolling to the top. I noticed on one iPad that the progress bar showed up at the top for some reason.

This may or may not be a good place for my question, but noticed this thread just as I was about to post a new topic on the LC Universal remote.

There was a thread a while back discussing a problem with the original firmware, where the remote would disconnect from an engine if that engine wasn't controlled for some time, I think about 7 to 15 minutes.  Was that fixed in 1.1/1.2?

I want to be sure that if, for example, I set all three engines running, they will remain connected if I set the remote down for an hour.

While here, are there any known bugs with the remote in 1.1 or 1.2, beyond the one Dave mentioned of weird things happening if more than six total devices are connected?

Been away from the forum for about a year and need to catch up on things.

John, This is in the explanation from Dave shown above...I think it is what you were referring too. I had that issue from the very beginning with the original Universal Remote that I received.
