I purchased this today at a local train show. I remember reading about this in a past article. The person who owned this GG1 worked for a railroad and received it as a safety award. The box says Conrail and mentions safety but no manufacturer. I was told that it was a display only item. An examination of the rollers seemed to bear this out. On the bottom it was Identified as Kline. The box was torn and taped. So my question is this: Is it valuable or should I give it to grandkids to play? Anyone have an idea about value?

$100-$150. More with the cars it came with. Run it... they run well.
yes I have another K-Line GG1 and it is a puller. I got this for a very reasonable price if it is worth $125.
Ebay has the whole set quite regularly. $100-$150
I would run it too. I think K line made superb smooth running engines that are great pullers, especially after year 2000. I have their Chessie System Diesel, a Tuscan Red GG1 and 5344 baby Hudson that all have terrific detail, run great and were relatively economical. But I believe in running everything, including a mint condition 700E (which I don't and never will have) for philosophical reasons because all trains were meant to run.
That's a pretty neat find!!
Check for zinc rot...and let'r rip......
thanks for the info. I guess this item is more co mmon than
I thought. I will examine the side frames.
If it's for display only, then why would it have p/u rollers? If it runs, run it. If not, figure out why...
