Hi all!

I am pleased to announce two things: one, the tentative schedule for the tour UP 4141 (President Bush) will be going on in the coming months has been verified by UP spokeswoman Kristen South. You can read that story here!  On top of that, RIAM has released a NEW website that will be for news articles!!  Titled Industry Headlines, the website will be free for all railfans and railroaders and will be updated daily with news articles on model railroading, prototype railroading, restoration projects, and much more! Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter so you'll receive updates on the latest news from the crew!

Article says it may only be for UP's employees and family.  Joe public may not be able to see.  Bummer if that happens because Ogden is on the list and it's a 25 min drive.

Correct, i.e for employees only when on "display". The unit was in Proviso Yard, a day or two ago, and was easily visible from the employee's parking lot, however wouldn't you know it but a car of "holier than thou" rail fans showed up, and promptly tried walk right up to the unit. The UP Special agents finally had a snoot full of their actions, and promptly forced EVERYBODY that was not an employee off the property! Proving that it takes only a few to ruin it for everybody.

If they didn't want the hassle of the public coming they shouldn't have released any PR on it. You know the first post of this thread will only bring uninvited guests to the locations. Her quote about not allowing the public in out of respect for his family is a bunch of hooey as there are probably thousands across the country who wish they could have gone to Washington and paid their respects. (Maybe just say we don't want the public and the resulting logistical nightmare!)

Curious, was it really just employees (and their families?) or did they allow "connected" guests as well? So how did the railfans and foamers get into the UP Employees parking lot anyway?

They simply drove right in. It is an open parking lot without any security at the entrance gate. Those non-employees that were already there, were respecting the "rules" about NOT walking right up to the side of the unit.

No good deed goes unpunished, as they say.

UPRR did a good deed by, first, applying a special paint job to engine 4141 to honor President Bush, whose Presidential library is online to Union Pacific.  And they have taken good care of the locomotive for several years.

When the opportunity arose to offer the Bush family a funeral train, pulled by the 4141, UPRR again did a good deed.

The funeral train has turned the locomotive into an icon, as almost everyone in the US saw it on television, pulling the train with the late President's casket and his family aboard.  Whether or not they voted for George Bush, most Americans respected him as a former President and a decent man, as evidenced by the crowds who lined the route of the funeral train.

And, now they are sending the locomotive on tour.  UPRR created this.  They should now take a deep breath and exhibit it for the public as well as for the employees.  If they can manage a funeral train, they can manage the exhibition of the commemorative locomotive.  People want to see it.

The alternative could be a negative story on network news, about families who were rudely told to leave UPRR property because the exhibition was for employees only.  Was the paint job for employees only?  Was the funeral train for employees only?  Was the media announcement of the exhibition tour for employees only?  It will be sad if someone at UPRR who clearly understands the big picture does not correct this before it becomes a smear on the good deeds of Union Pacific.

One "Aw-sh_t" cancels a hundred attaboys.

"Former United States President George Bush is seen en route to the Bohemian Grove on July 22, 1993. Bush belongs to the Grove's "Hill Billies" camp whose affiliates include quite a few others who, like Bush, attended Yale University. Bush flew in on Union Pacific Corporation's jet."

Union Pacific Thanks Mr.Bush for Blocking the SPSF Merger.
