I read on “Utah Rails” a short description of the small amount of FEF-2 & 3 locomotives that received this modification which once installed, apparently lasted until retirement. What the article doesn’t mention is wether or not there was any derived benefit from it. I’ll assume that from 1946 to retirement since no other locomotives received this mod, the benefit was negligible and the cost to revert back to 2 stacks wasn’t worth the effort but that’s just a guess. Anyone know more about this?
