I will be picking up a brass US Hobbies GP35 diesel soon.  Looks to be an early run with fabricated brass axle gear boxes vs the the more common diecast ones I see online.  She does run, noisy from the open frame motor and dry bearings hollering for lubrication.  Other than swapping in a Pittman can motor and adding 8 wheel power pickups, what else should I watch for?  She is pro painted in Chessie colors, but I may still make the upper headlight a Gyralite.  Whatever prototype US hobbies used, had the headlight in the low hood and a Pyle Gyralite between the number glasses.   Mike

I have two like that and they run beautifully.    I assumed they might be Max Grey, the predecessor to US Hobbies.    Mine have the fabricated gear boxes too.

I replaced the motors with Pittman cans and added pickups to the wheels for 8 wheel pickup.   They run very smoothly and quietly.    I can't think of anything else other than lightly lubing everything, including the gearboxes.    I guess if the grease in the gearboxes is hard, it should be removed and replaced, not added to.
