TIU fixed channels cannot be changed to variable.  Variables can be set to fixed, but only via the remote.  Without a remote, your DCS locos will still get a watchdog signal from the TIU and you will be unable to control them without a remote (or a wifi app).

With no remote, all you can do is used fixed channels and run conventional.

Hi Rjr,

You may have misread my question but not sure, I am not trying to change the fixed channel to Variable via the remote, I took the TIU and re-routed my input/output fixed channel wires to the variable and the power is from the Z-4000. I was asking in this case, do i just now hook up an external power supply?  The reason for doing this is that my remote is in the repair shop...Thanks

I make no comment, pro or con, on the wifi.  I have 2 WIUs & 4 remotes; you either love WIUs or hate them.

If your remote is in a local shop, you might want to retrieve it and check with some of the techs who frequent this forum, such as GGG, who keep them in stock.  I would not dump a remote that only needs a cheap thumbwheel, a 10-minute cheap repair job.

RJR,

You and I have been running DCS sense it came on to the market, and this is one thread that is more than just a little hard to follow.

Trackhead,

RJR gave you good advise, retrieve your DCS HHRC and have GGG here on the OGR Forum fix the thumb wheel for you, purchase Barry's DCS O Gauge Companion book and the OGR Video Guide to DCS.  After doing some reading and maybe watching the Video we will help you in any way we can.

Please pass the Russell's down this way.   Keep the ice!

PCRR/Dave
