Vern Cole Passes Away

For those here in the Bay Area, and for many others who've visited from out of town, Vern Cole, co-owner and co-founder of the Train Shop in San Jose/Santa Clara, CA passed away on Nov. 23rd at the age of 88.  I've been visiting the Train Shop since the mid-80's, and Vern was always a stand-up guy... quite knowledgeable about his model railroad products and always very pleasant and helpful.  He retired several years back and I've missed seeing him when I visit the shop.  His son Dennis Cole now owns and runs the place.

So sad to hear about this.  

 

In a former chapter of life, I travelled upwards of twice a month to California for a company based in Sunnyvale / Santa Clara.  So it didn't take too long to stumble upon The Train Shop while out there so often.  Some nights it was just nice to stroll through the store and chat with those working.  I always felt welcome there.

 

My sincere condolences to the Cole family and friends.
