You can.  It just has to be below the 100MB limit.

You can use any device to upload a video here. However, as MikeH pointed out, it has to be less than 100 MB. If your file is larger than that you have these options:

1. If the file is just over the limit by a few megabytes, edit the video to shorten it a little.
2. Recompress the video using a higher compression rate to shrink the file size, at the expense of some video quality.
3. If there is absolutely no hope of getting it below 100 MB, upload it to your own YouTube channel and then embed it here. There are no size limits on YouTube.

I have had videos less than 100MB still not get handled correctly. Everything looks good when they're uploading, but then after processing is complete and the play button appears, they show up as 0s in length and clicking play does nothing. They were recorded in 4k on my iPhone 12 Pro. I tried downsampling them to 1080p using the export option in QuickTime Player and had the same problem. I tried downsampling even more to 720p and then they showed up properly. Not sure if this is expected behavior, but it's what worked for me.

There is no reason to shoot casual video for home (or forum) use in 4K. It's just a huge waste of data space. And I would guess that about 10 seconds of 4K video is more than 100 MB.

Did you actually check the size of the 1080 video file after it was re-compressed? The scenario you are describing is often what happens when the file is more than 100 MB. That's probably why the 720P video worked OK. It was under 100 MB.

For uploading a typical train layout video scene here, 720P is plenty of resolution. There's really no need for anything higher.

IMO, the format/density any individual chooses for home use is completely up to them and I expect most people won't go through the extra effort to deviate from their devices's default format. Storage space is pretty cheap and readily available these days.

I did check sizes. Everything I uploaded was under the 100MB limit, but the 1080p versions were not handled correctly and showed up as useless 0s length videos.

The original 4k video I recorded to add to a post was nearly 3 minutes long and the file was 306MB. I split it into 1m chunks and then downsampled to 1080p to get each one under the 100MB limit. I've attached them below for your reference - if the issue reproduces here, maybe they be used to help figure out what's going on.

I'm not paying for the forum's storage space, so I won't argue with you here - 720p is probably fine for forum use in most if not all cases. My issue is it seems like 720p is an undocumented maximum allowed resolution as I haven't been able get 1080p or 4k videos under the 100MB limit to work.
