I do like that barn scene, sunflowers and all....and the rolling stock all seems to have the "correct" roadnames. Vegetation detail is GREAT!

Having just put a small cornfield on my own layout, I can tell you all that those plants are not cheap. With just under 400 plants on my own 'farm' setting (and a grouping of them bought used off eBay), I describe it as my "$100 cornfield" as that's about how much the plants alone cost.

Never mind the time and effort you have to do to put out the rows, drill the holes, then make sure you get them 'planted' together to look right!

The plants are universal scale as I used them in a trackside garden. Mine are on a  1:35th scale Rhodesian layout.  There is a meali patch behind the village.

Erik, seems you took a break for a while and without you this forum went from technicolor to sepia and faded to gray  - like from green chili enchiladas to granola.  It's good to have you back.  Thanks.  Man, I covet that double stripe black Grande caboose.  Will I ever find an O scale one?

Jeff thanks; I am trying to recreate what I missed in a great era. I love the cars and the trains, neat stuff. Maybe in my interest of this era I can create a 4D living exhibit of the elements of Americana that likely will never return. This is also a chance for the youth that see our layout to see what it was like. I make huge strides talking with people that were there and lived it for the upmost authenticity both in operations and the scenes around the tracks. To me it's a painting in living 4D.

The images below are personal to me; my father worked a Standard or Amaco service station in Arnold's Park, IA as a boy in the mid 50's. His stories always peaked my interest and likely why I have half a dozen vintage 1:1 cars and model this stuff. 

I hope these images spark your imagination like mine. What was it like back then? 

More or less what did the guy do driving the Packard to have the fuzz after him... ;-)

The nameless DCR fan from Ontario returns. She or he or it is correct, JTT products  aquired at my local Hobby Lobby. Perhaps not also seen is the HO versions for corn stalks that were a little short on water.

Dont forget about Silfor's Crop Rows... 

How about some volunteer corn along the yard leads in Omaha!?

Don't forget about the implements to deal with that corn...
