Pat was most helpful (as he always is) and got me through a SNAFU while ordering this PFE reefer set on his website.

Being the ultimate salesman he is; he also helped me devastate the balance on my credit cards with the addition of the two other sets of PFE reefers AND the upcoming Lionel NYC ESE set AND the 2 car add-on set AND the StationSounds diner!!!

GEE ZOWIE!!!!!!!!... (am I easy or what?)

... and I thought I had just about recovered from my purchase of a Legacy Big Boy, Legacy Cab Forward, Legacy 990 controller and 2 Lion Chief sets from him.

Best,

Dave

Yep, sounded pretty good, but we didn't hear all the sounds.  It was also a prototype, don't know if the final version will have the same set of sounds.

My VL tank cars are plenty loud, I don't think I'd want more volume.  How loud do you need them?

The only engine that I can't hear well running 4 sets of trains is the new Lionel ac6000s. I think the volume on them is to low. Lionel es44s are nice and loud

" they are the same color.  I'd find it hard to believe Lionel would change the color now.  sure, they don't match the MTH color, but I'm okay with that."

I saw lots of these when I was a kid and it was hard to find two with the same color due to their cross country runs thru tunnels and storms of various types. If lionel and MTH makes them in different colors that's a positive. They could even do better by making them in a wider range of colors from brand new bright  orange to sooty black to faded yellow..DaveB

My PFE Reefers arrived this week and they look and sound great.   I have one gripe:  2 cars have couplers that pop open frequently even with a light load of 6-8 cars.  This is pretty annoying given the $250 cost of the set of 3 cars.  C'mon Lionel, how about some quality control?

I hate to have to send it back to Lionel.  I'm debating popping the rivet and taking them apart to file the coupler as described here.  Anyone else having this problem or a solution?

Anyway, did I mention that the cars look and sound great?

Here's a video (the reefer shows up at 30 sec):

I finally located some. I bought a set off of the forum.  Then I just got a call from a dealer who was trying to locate some. I had told him I would buy what he could find. I thought he would find one. He found three sets. I ended up taking them too because I had told him I wanted them. Anyway I put a lot of hours into finding some but I now have more than I need!

Not VisionLine ones, but the matching sets also sold would pop open on me too.  But it was only on curves.  In looking at them closely I found that by moving the coupler on it's pivot point it would open.  So I looked closer and found that there was some interference causing the release linkage to move when the coupler moved.  This happened to me on O72 curves, so I'd hate to see how it would of happened on the rated O31.  So I bent part of the linkage enough so that it was now not moving as the coupler pivoted around curves.  Now I'm down to just one that opens if it's not at the end of the train due to not being able to hold the weight of several other reefers.

There are Four(4) types of rolling stock vision cars that have been out so far.

1) the actual vision flat with a screen

2) the stockyard cars

3) the tankers; and

4) the PFE freight car.

It seems that if these Vision offerings were of interest there were a lot of opportunities to either acquire or plan to acquire one of them.

Also given the popularity, there will be many many more so keep an eye on the catalogs.

THERE ARE THREE AUCTIONS ON EBAY NOW FOR THE PFEs

gunrunnerjohn - I am really looking forward to seeing and hearing what you produce.  I want my trains to sound real.  When you are by the tracks and a train comes by whether it is fast or slow, it is a real sound experience.  The rails sing.  The flat wheels bump.  There is creaking and groaning.  I hope you capture that in an easy to install and use product.  I think the big boys are missing out on lots of $s for such a product.
