Looking for some suggestions on service.

Last week I sold a 3pk of the VisionLine ethanol tank cars with freight sounds to someone. I had bought from my dealer years ago when they shipped but had never opened them so they were in new condition. The person who bought them says they set-up fine and ran a few loops correctly. When he left the sit on a powered track the car with the electro coupler went berserk and he thought he smelled something. I suggested he contact his local dealer. Here is where the problem starts. His dealer won't touch VisionLine items, Lionel told him no because it is out of warranty and he got a name of Jada Enterprises. Does anyone know of Jada Enterprises or some other suggestion on a service or what the problem might be? I thought it would just be a fix of the electrocoupler.

thanks for your thoughts

Paul

Alex M is excellent at repairs, he's Jada Enterprises

Top suspect for me would be the RCDR that powers the coupler, a shorted triac happens more frequently than you think.  If it's the triac, it can be easily replaced on the existing board.  It might be that there's a wire that's pinched or chaffed that has caused the failure.  Of course, you'll need another coupler I'd imagine if that one smoked.

The dealer has a strange attitude, they're just parts at this point.  For a 2008 VL product, you just fix them.  The tank cars are pretty simple, I've had several apart for repairs.
