Just received the Vision-Sided reefer cars. Three cars in the set but unlike the vision tanker cars only one has a sound system.

I wondered with the tankers why offer the extra soundless car with the set. Of which I have no answer other than marketing.

If the three cars shared speakers or were interconnected so the sound moved across the three cars then I see it. But what I have is two extra(and really nicely detailed  UP Pacific Fruit Express Reefer) cars that I did not need to pay for.

ahhhh marketing!

Larry's right on all counts. My PFE set won't arrive until Monday, but I saw Mike R. demonstrate the sound effects at York and I thought it was the best thing since the ethanol set. Of course the gold standard in non-engine sound effects is the Lionel command control cranes and boom cars but it's months until they come out . . .

I'm trying to patiently wait for mine.

The catalog clearly stated only ONE car has sound, pg 8-9.  HERE

Also, the catalog states the sound car should have a coil coupler on one end.  Does it?

Let's see video!  I've heard so much about these from the guys who attended York.

Amen Brother! I read those catalogs for weeks ramble on about stats and figures for days after they come out. Drives the old lady crazy but whatever. I agree that there should be more speakers but to complain about it now at this point when I haven't gotten mine is just poor form.

Hold the phone; I thought that the Vision ethanol tank car set (6-27410) had one sound-equipped car but it is indeed TWO and one car has an end of train device. So they cut back on the sound feature for the Vision PFE sets but that's the breaks - better one than none.

These Vision cars are much better detailed than the other PFE cars I have to run with the SP cabforward.

I need to CORRECT this statement. The Vision reefers are just as detailed as the earlier ones. Except for the undercarriage which on the Vision ones is LESS detailed to accommodate two control switches.

There is of course power rollers on the Vision trucks and on one truck what appears to be an IR sensor. But I cannot find any mention of an IR sensor in the manual.

Many dealers have them now.  Nicholas Smith Trains called me a few days ago to let me know they were in.  Need to make a run to the store -- perhaps this afternoon yet -- to pick them up.  Also got a call from Nassau Hobbies yesterday, and they were shipping yesterday.  Charlie Ro also has them... just to name a few.

didn't radio shack and or someone else have a record and play back device that would allow adding a small speaker?

if so why not record from the reefer sound car and you can have all the sounds you want.

just a thought.

Not nearly as sophisticated as what's in the car.  Also, the RS system only allows a very short recording.  I've used the RS system, but I decided to roll my own.

GNJ,  I didn't mean you would get all the sounds but some were wishing they had more reefers with sounds that could be at various areas within the consist. so thought this would be a way to make it possible.

If your recording from the vision line reefer with sounds why wouldn't you get all the sounds?

so you create your own sounds is what you mean?

I think a simple on/off switch on freight car would suffice it would be a battery powered device unless some savy electronic person could tap into track power.

I am not suggesting this to be remote controlled via cab-2.

I was just thinking of an easy way to create more of some recorded sounds is all.

I will assume your device does same and is controlled via cab-2?
