The catalog clearly stated only ONE car has sound, pg 8-9.  HERE

Also, the catalog states the sound car should have a coil coupler on one end.  Does it?

Yes yes, post a video of them already.  Mine should ship to me today, but it'll be over a week before I see them as I live in the west and they are coming from back east.

The Ethanol cars had only one sound car. It was cool and I bet these reefers will be really cool. I would be glad to buy your extra 2....Thank You.... Happy Railroading

my ethanol set has 2 sound cars.

Larry's right on all counts. My PFE set won't arrive until Monday, but I saw Mike R. demonstrate the sound effects at York and I thought it was the best thing since the ethanol set. Of course the gold standard in non-engine sound effects is the Lionel command control cranes and boom cars but it's months until they come out . . . 

Amen Brother! I read those catalogs for weeks ramble on about stats and figures for days after they come out. Drives the old lady crazy but whatever. I agree that there should be more speakers but to complain about it now at this point when I haven't gotten mine is just poor form.

I remember thinking that only one sound car in the set really stunk....but just as Lionel thought I ordered the set anyway-as did a lot of other folks.

Multiple sound cars that play off each other so that the sounds appears to move across the entire line of cars like an electronic ventriloquist where sound is thrown back and forth. 

These Vision cars are much better detailed than the other PFE cars I have to run with the SP cabforward. SO NO I am not selling them!!!

I own a LOT of Lionel PFE reefers and the type in this set are my favorite.  

Which set are you referring too?

The Ethanol cars have two sound cars, I have the set.

I could be wrong, however, the Ethanol Cars, VisionLine sounded great. I did think there was one, but, I have made a few mistakes in Life. I look forward to getting the new Reefers. Happy Railroading.

Hold the phone; I thought that the Vision ethanol tank car set (6-27410) had one sound-equipped car but it is indeed TWO and one car has an end of train device. So they cut back on the sound feature for the Vision PFE sets but that's the breaks - better one than none.

That's so you can buy 2 (or more) sets!    Pretty much on target for the marketing department.

I need to CORRECT this statement. The Vision reefers are just as detailed as the earlier ones. Except for the undercarriage which on the Vision ones is LESS detailed to accommodate two control switches.

There is of course power rollers on the Vision trucks and on one truck what appears to be an IR sensor. But I cannot find any mention of an IR sensor in the manual.

OOPs  wrong again... it's not an IR sensor but a motion sensor.

as to buying more sets for more sounds how about this?

didn't radio shack and or someone else have a record and play back device that would allow adding a small speaker?

if so why not record from the reefer sound car and you can have all the sounds you want.

just a thought.

Many dealers have them now.  Nicholas Smith Trains called me a few days ago to let me know they were in.  Need to make a run to the store -- perhaps this afternoon yet -- to pick them up.  Also got a call from Nassau Hobbies yesterday, and they were shipping yesterday.  Charlie Ro also has them... just to name a few.

Not nearly as sophisticated as what's in the car.  Also, the RS system only allows a very short recording.  I've used the RS system, but I decided to roll my own.

Problem is, how would you trigger the sounds in the RS module?  That's the reason I went to the trouble of building a module that would do the job.

Ahhhhh... Still nothing for me? I ordered two sets. I was one of the first to get the Y6B earlier so I guess this is payment for that. I'm going to play with my hooter.

Received a call from Legacy Station a few minutes ago.  My reefers will ship on Monday.

Does anyone know if the 6-29989 PFE 3 pack shipped?  This was the set offered in 2014 Vol 2 and in the 2015 Signature catalog.

FWIW, it isn't on the shipping schedule anymore.  That sometimes means it has shipped.  I use that loosely!

I'm beginning to wonder if I didn't get one of my pre-orders....

I have it in captivity, so I think it shipped.

They came in to Henning's with the VL-BB before Christmas.  I was disappointed then that the VL Reefers didn't come as well.

Did you look at the thread I posted?  The answers are yes and yes.  It plays multiple sounds that are command selectable.
