After running great for 2 1/2 years I noticed that the smoke output has become somewhat anemic on my Bigboy. I will oil and grease it as well as clean and check the smoke units. Before i do that, does anyone know the correct distance between the resistor and the thermistor for optimal performance?

I think if you make them both basically perpendicular to the PCB, they should be about right. After a couple of years heavy running, new shredded wick is also recommended for best performance.

John said it on the wick. Part number 691SMKP008. That is what I use in the VLBB. That number is put in new but not Reaganized.

Great item. FWIW, LionChief Plus locomotives also love it. I recently used it in a Weaver I-5 conversion to PS3 with a TAS smoke unit. I was able to squeeze two 16 ohm heating elements into the small smoke bowl. Not as lucky with the MTH rope style wick. I Reaganized the 691SMKP008, carefully packed it in the bowl and results were excellent.
