If you have a screw driver set already, you can buy a Magnetizer/ de-magnetizer block. You just pass the driver through it and it magnetizes the tool. If you don’t want it magnetized, pass it through the stepped side…

I just use a large magnet, I rub the screwdriver on it a few times and I have a magnetic screwdriver. If I need it demagnetized, I use my VCR tape eraser to do that trick.

Mark - I picked up a Magnetizer/DeMagnetizer a few years ago and it’s been of great assistance when either taking out or putting back those relatively small screws on our O Gauge trains. No regrets!
Have a phillips head and slotted head screwdriver that i pass over a magnet when i go to use them on trains and they do the job as expected.
Use to put a little grease on the tips to hold the screw prior and it worked but the magnet rub works great and no mess.

Exactly why I want it. My son is starting to help me, but he’s almost as fumble-fingered as I. Figure it’ll give him an edge!
Walmart has a slide in/out Magnetizer/ Demagnetizer tool in their hardware tools section in stores for under $3. I have one and it works quite well for me. One opening magnetizes your screwdriver or other tool and the other opening demagnetizes it.
Depending on how small a screw, there are wedge tip screw drivers, a mechanical hold.
I got this magnet tray for screws and such from Harbor Freight for free with a coupon some years back. Even if you have to buy it, it's cheap. It will magnetize all of my screwdrivers with a few stokes. I've also used it to retrieve small screws that I've dropped and bounced under the workbench that were "lost".
