How can I get the stainless steel grills on my MTH IL. Central E8 diesel set? One grill want to buckle in two places. How can I make them lie flat?

Take an exacto knife tip and pop the grill out from one side or the other. You only need to release up to the wrinkle. Not the whole thing. Apply some small dots of superglue around the perimeter frame and press it back down flat.
I see that this is an older post, but I just bought a beautiful ABA set (used) with the same exact problem. It literally looks like it was never run, but some of the grills are warped. Did you have any luck? I'm hesitant to glue them down because it would require such a small amount of glue. Also, if you push the grill down in one place, it pops up in another. Thanks for any insight.
My Weaver E8's from the 80's have the buckling grilles. I have never tried to fix them, as this AA set has been a shelf queen since before the buckling occurred.
If anyone has a proven repair/glue combo how about posting? I understand the problem, differential expansion rates of steel and plastic, but "more glue" brings an image of a mess to my mind.
The screens are eaily removed. Take off the shell and bend all the tabs holding then straight. Then gently pull them out or better yet push out the tabs from the inside. Make sure all the slots are clean and set the screens back in so they lay flat. If they want to buckle address the slots or tabs that are causing them to do this. I removed mine for painting.
Some of the grills when they were made are too long, trim the ends and it should fit fine, dont use wire cutters , i used scissors, take a little off at a time keep the tabs straight until the grill sits flat then refold the tabs.
I was actually thinking the same thing because if you press on the grill at the end, it will cause it to buckle in the middle. That was one of my ideas, but I was hesitant to try it. I think I will definitely give it a try now. Thankfully, only 2 of the 6 vents have this problem. I appreciate the help. I will post an update after I try it.
