Wouldn't that depend on how old the model is, i.e. when was it produced/issued by the manufacturer? When you state "brand new, in box", the model may actually be quite some years old from when it was produced/issued.

That's true.  I think the product cannot be more than 5 years out of production. However, for warranty claims doesn't the manufacturer demand a copy of the original receipt?  Unlike authorized dealers, does such a receipt exist with an eBay seller?

If the seller is/was an Authorized Dealer, yes.

Unlike authorized dealers, does such a receipt exist with an eBay seller?

How do you know if the eBay seller is actually an "Authorized Dealer"?

Unless the ebay seller tells you "I am an authorized dealer and will include a receipt form my store with your purchase for warranty purposes", you are not going to have a warranty, no matter how new/old the item is.  (It's up to you to figure out if they really are an authorized dealer.  If I get a receipt for a train that says "John's Donuts", it's probably not a legitimate dealer! ) Train warranties for the most part state that they are not transferable to new owners.

Example: If I sell you a train on ebay that I bought last week and I am not an authorized dealer, the warranty does not transfer to you.  Now if I had a receipt (that did not have my name on it) from an authorized dealer that I included with the purchase, you may be able to get service, though technically that is outside of the rules.

The fact the seller is unresponsive means you should assume no warranty. 

Slightly off topic, but don't be surprised if the seller eventually responds asking you not to bid.  I've had that once or twice over the years for less critical questions.  If the seller thinks you have enough doubts about their item to put at risk the sale going through successfully, they may try to dissuade you from bidding so they don't have to deal with a probable return.

On E bay you must assume there is no warranty other then what the seller described. Unless your buying from an authorized dealer.

I sold things on e bay that where new in the box and that statement was true for the ten to fifteen years from the day I bought them because they have never been opened.

None of them had a warranty because of their age, but the statement New in the box means not used, not when it was purchased.  

No response only makes me question if the communication system is working.

  I've never brushed off an inquiry. Never had one ignored either. It's just plain bad business.

  They really need another supliment to the seller rating imo. Something less impactful and slower to access to balance it, like a comment section. 

  Most warranties are non-transferable though.
