There are quite a few older MTH cars in my collection. As you know, many of these cars sit very high from the ground. If any of you have experience dropping these cars down, I'd like to hear how you did it. Gondolas and flatcars in particular...

Interesting thread title, as I first thought you were dropping cars on the floor. Once I read what you wanted, I realize your desire is to "lower the ride height" of some freight cars. Just going from memory, I think there have been some threads on the both the 3-Rail Scale and 2-Rail Scale forums. However, I think you might then cause the big flanges to contact the underside of the car.
I've done two MTH 8000 gal. tank cars by changing them out with Atlas rb trucks without any problems.
Lowering the MTH PS4 flats is on my list. They sit 3/8" higher than the Lionel cars. My plan is to replace the body bolsters with more scale ones and maybe remove some material from the truck bolster and fasten from the bottom of the truck rather than the top of the body bolster like MTH does. I have tested this out the there will still be clearance for the wheel flanges. Still looking for someone who has body bolsters in stock otherwise I will order from Precision Scale. Some of the end sill will have to be removed if big couplers are used. Toying with Kadees but then all my Lionel and Weaver cars will have to be changed out too.

I thought you wanted to know how to make them land on their feet, for example.
Man, I guess I better change the title! And I'll try that out Norton, sounds like a quick and easy fix.
Sorry about that, meant to say Paul. Though I probably will be removing some material from the underside of the cars...
The lowest trucks I have been able to find are Atlas, Pecos River and some newer Lionel.
Look for trucks where the top of the crossbar (what ever it is called that sits on the bolster) is slightly lower than the top of the coupler. After that, you have to decrease the bolster height of the car and make sure there is clearance on the end of the car for the coupler to swing.
You do not need to lower the MTH Premier covered hoppers.

Yep, have a few of those and they sit nice and low.
