Weaver engine

What is the 9 volt battery for? Is it for the DCS upgrade? I have 3 Williams in the Crown Edition and none of them needs a battery for the QSI system.

So the sound stays on when you change directions or pass over dead spots.  All my Weavers that had QSI sound had battery's just like Lionel railsounds. You have to remember, Weaver offered the QSI version of MTH PS 1.

That's nice to know, so I can check the battery first before I put it on the track and might harm the circuit board. I just charged a PS-1 battery the other week and have the charger nearby to use again.

My Williams don't have a battery, just the QSI sound system and circuit board.

I have a question about the QSI battery in the Weaver C-630 diesel engine. 

Took the engine apart and got the old battery out, it was an 8.4 volt rechargeable with 100 mAh rating. Will an MTH 8.4 volt 120 mAh rechargeable battery work?

I think both batteries are Nickel Caldium, the original has Nickel Caldium on it and the MTH battery has Ni-Cad on it. I think I have an abbreviation issue only and not a battery issue.

The original battery had a digital volt reading of .56 volts or just over half a volt.

The replacement battery is close to 9.4 volts.

While in it I also tightened a couple of screws at the truck assemblies that hold one of the plastic pieces in place.

The green MTH Battery will work.. You can also put in a BCR which will work just as good.

Thanks Doug, I just want to make I didn't damage anything.

Plus I looked up Ni-Cad in the Webster's College dictionary and found it was an abriation for Nickel Cadmiun.

Lee, an mAh rating is just a measure of a battery's capacity.  No problem unless it is too low to provide adequate power to do its job.  The key is voltage.
