Weaver Virginian 100 ton 4 bay open hopper car. I have a pair of these. They seem to be hard to find in Virginian livery. I made the coal load.

Nice looking coal load. What did you use?
@jim sutter posted:Rod and HudsonJ1e,
Thank you both for your kind words. I would of loved to have you both as customers. HudsonJ1e thanks for posting a picture of your Delta Lines box car. I don't believe I ever saw that car. I hope both of you have a wonderful and safe day.
Jim... I bought from you several times over the phone, but am sorry I never made it up to your store in person from Delaware. It was nice to see those photos of it's interior. My wife & I were finally up thru your area in 2019 & visited the Jimmy Stewart Museum in Indiana, PA.
A great topic and even greater response!! My hi cube auto parts box cars from the 90s along with a 50' Trailer Train flat. Ed

Good Afternoon Radio Ron, When you were in Indiana, PA. you were only six miles from where I live. It would of been great to have met you.
Olney trains, Thank you for posting your auto parts Hi-Cube box cars and your 50' Trailer Train flat car. I don't remember how many auto parts box cars Weaver Made.
You two take care and have a wonderful and safe evening. Thanks again for posting.
Since I posted my first Weaver purchase, here is my latest:
One of my favorite paint schemes, and a slightly funny story (to me, at least) behind it. Weaver supposedly made in 3 road numbers. I bought one many years ago and have been hunting for the remaining two numbers ever since. The funny part is that I have seen a bunch of them since, both at shows spread across 3 states and on line, but they were all the same road number I already have. Until this popped up on the auction site, I was beginning to think that they only made the one number. Now I have hope that I may some day find the third number.
And here is another from my collection:
Originally sold at the brewery gift shop back before the brand was destroyed by big brewing.

Andy, thank you for posting a picture of your Baltimore and Ohio box car and your Rolling Rock caboose. Your Baltimore and Ohio box car was always a favorite of mind. The first one I had was the American Flyer version #983. The second version I had was a MPC #9783. I also had the Weaver version like yours.
Weaver has been my go-to brand for some time. I look for them anywhere I can. I probably have 40-50 cars in my collection, a small number compared to others. 80% is CNW with UP and assorted roads making up the balance. My preference is 1940-50'still Era with boxcars dominating, a few WWII hoppers and gondolas, but I also have some 60-70's Era open top and grain hoppers.
Here's a look at my Weaver ALCO Century 628 pulling a string of Weaver 3 Bay hoppers with some lionel mixed in.
I also bought his twin brother, here pulling a K-Line ore train.

third rail,
Thank you for posting a picture of your Weaver Chicago Northwestern Alco C-628. I had the Pennsylvania version. It was always my favorite diesel. You take care and have a wonderful and safe day. Also, I hope you are planning on posting pictures of some of your Weaver cars.
Thank you I love the ALCOS. I wish that they were made with high hoods like the way they were bought from the N&W. Have a goofy horn but someday I'll convert them to TMCC.
Here's a picture of 5 Weaver's CMO/CNW Express boxcars .

I have the top car as well, the only one I picked up. These rib-sided MR cars (I think there were six different ones, don't remember for sure) were special issue and weren't cheap, and also kind of sky-rocketed in price after their release. I liked the top car especially because it has the Miller Beer logo outline, as it was used in grain deliveries to the Miller Brewery in Milwaukee.

I'm modeling (at glacial speed) the Milwaukee Road Beer Line and the grain car looked like a needful thing. I liked the roof hatches which made the car distinctive and the Miller logo was certainly a plus. After it came out, I wrote Weaver - don't remember who - and asked if they were going to do Pabst and/or Schlitz, but the answer was unfortunately no. I wasn't aware that these were special issue. Now I really wish I bought more than just three.
I wonder who got these molds.

third rail, Thank you for posting pictures of five Weaver PS-2 covered hoppers. third rail, I believe, Weaver also made a dark green Chicago Northwesten PS-2 covered hopper just like your yellow ones. This also did a Linde Air in a reverse colors as to the one you have on your layout. Should you have more cars please post them. Please take care and have a wonderful and safe evening.

Here are a couple more from my accumulation. First up is a Pittsburgh McKeesport & Youghiogheny hopper. This is a favorite of mine as I cross the old "P-Mickey" line (now a bike trail) nearly every day going to and from work:
Next is a boxcar that was sold at the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum and at Horseshoe Curve based on the one at the museum:
And finally, in the spirit of "Throwback Thursday", we were looking at old photos at our club meeting last night and came across this one:
We are almost certain that there are a number of Weaver cars in view here.

@rail posted:Nice looking coal load. What did you use?
Thank you @rail: I bought the coal for the load at a Michaels Crafts store. I found it in their floral dept. alongside different colors of sands, and stones. ( I also bought white sand for the sand house on my layout's loco servicing facility ) The coal looks good and is much less expensive than the coal sold in hobby shops.

The reason I asked, is because it looks very similar to the loads I make using fine Black beauty blast grit. It is also reasonably priced at around $20.00 for a 100 lb bag. The last bag I bought was 50 lb for $10.00.
PRRMP54, Thank you for posting a picture of a Weaver ALCO C-628. Great looking diesel.
Pennsynut, I love all four of your cars. Especially the gondolas.
Andy, Those are two wonderful Weaver cars. Andy, like you I'm sure there are quite a number of Weaver cars on that layout. Also, if someone would put the garage door up you would see a garage full of Weaver freight cars.
Norton, Your New York Central box cars in the "Pacemaker" paint scheme look great.
I hope all of you have a great and safe day.
The Weaver Alco C630 had an interesting (3) axle truck. One of the larger diesels, that would operate on O54.
At the time you could purchase Weaver two bay hoppers un-decorated. My first experience with Dry transfer lettering.
Mike CT, Thank you for posting pictures of your Weaver U.P. Diesels and your Pittsburg and Shawmut hopper cars. Mike, I really enjoy seeing your pictures that you post from time to time. Everything, is always so neat and clean. Take care and stay safe.

Paul 2, Thank you for posting pictures of your eight Weaver freight cars. Your wood chip hoppers are very interesting. You have a few that I never seen. Your Chessie CD grain hopper is very attractive. Thanks again and have a wonderful and safe evening.
Doug C, Thank you for buying the blue roof Bunny Bread Weaver from me. The Bunny Bread cars were great sellers for us. Most people bought both versions.
Doug C. thanks again for your business and posting a picture of the blue roof version. Take care and stay safe.
Mike McCutheon, Thank you, for posting a picture of your 50' Moxie box car. Please take care and have a wonderful and safe evening.
Thought I’d show you an all-Weaver/all-PP&L train. The engine, caboose and tankers were all produced via the PP&L employees activity club over a period of a few years. The hoppers were all retailed in Weaver’s catalogs. I do not believe that PP&L every transported oil with its own tankers, however someone explained to me that these cars were actually filled with cement and used in the power plant yard as counter weights. I’ve included coal loads in a few of the cars for perspective. I do have 4 other hoppers and only one duplicate road number. I don’t know how many road numbers were ultimately made by Weaver. Note that the last hopper (#125) has no yellow color on the billboard side and I believe it was one of the earlier Weaver models. I purchased that one pre-owned. The John Wilkes and UP box in one of the photos is also Weaver. I have a bunch more Weaver cars as I liked their work - miss them! Enjoy!

In memory of Bob at AM Hobbies. I'm 99% sure he did the special run of the D&H Molasses Tank Cars, I have been able to acquire 14 for my D&H / Napierville Junction Maple Syrup Train - will shoot a video of it soon. All other cars in picture are also Weaver except Gond.
