There's been some speculation about what will happen to Weaver values now that the company is out of business, so here's some up to date auction data. I was following several Weaver items on a Trainz auction that closed tonight. Two of the Milwaukee Road ribside boxcars in LNIB condition closed at just under $70.00 apiece, plus 15% buyers premium so that's right around MSRP or a bit over. On the other hand, I won a lot of four cars for $45.00+15%. Also in LNIB condition, these were recent production of older molds with die-cast trucks. I only wanted two of them, but I figure I can pull the trucks off the other two and resell them for cheap with plastic trucks. The lot consisted of a woodside reefer, an undecorated woodside boxcar, a modern 4-bay hopper, and a modern 40' tank car. Bidding interest was probably dampened by the combination of two steam-era cars with two modern cars. I'm happy - I got two steam-era cars I wanted plus some stuff to resell for a bit more than the price of the trucks and couplers. I didn't even try to bid on the ribside cars since I already have at least 15 of them and the final price was more than I paid for them when I pre-ordered.

This information is from the Trainz auction, which generally produces lower prices than eBay.

"I haven't really seen any radical increases in prices for Weaver on eBay. Many cars can still be had for under $20, depending on what they are."

Hi Matt, Yeah there were so many of the older common  Weaver cars made that it's going to take many years for the demand for them to exceed the supply, and as the years go by these cars become less and less "state of the art" so other better options might further decrease their price.  I look at the Weaver cars as the equivalent of the old Athearn blue box HO cars and feel they created a big boost in the number of O scale modelers when they arrived. Before Weaver it was mostly craftsman type kits of toy train style 3 rail cars, things like the Weaver PS2 and centerflow gave us mass produced HO scale like quality and value for the first time....DaveB

Definitely. The Weaver ACF's are what got me into scale-sized rolling stock. The PS2's were also great cars and a great value (I have over 30 of them). Of course, now I'm converting them BACK to 2-rail -- go figure.

Haven’t been able to pick up any good Weavers in months on the bay.

Not much on there as with anything else lately. Lots of nice 2r Atlas cars.

Mostly old overpriced Weaver junkers with plastic trucks and couplers or broken steps.

Those old cars are worth 18 bucks at best.

Most sellers really don’t know what they are selling or have any clue about the later LD models.

Rib cars are worth the price to serious modelers. They have always been high like Lionels PS & X-31's.

Slow train market, records show much more active this time last year.

Bunch of over priced MTH premier as well.

A few sellers on ebay have marked up their prices and have stated that with Weaver closing, the cars will become harder to find.  Asking, of course, isn't the same as selling.

Some Weaver cars that I have seen that seem to be selling above original price areat least some of the wagon-top boxcars.  In addition, the Troop cars and trailer/flats seem to sell at near original price.

I would think that these three would be good candidates for re-runs.  But, as the tooling is likely in China, it will be interesting to see if they ever are re-released.
