Town and country...

This week, I have two panoramic images showing the contrasts between the rural and urban areas of my layout. First is an image from the early early years of Penn Central in 1969. A westbound freight pulled by three four axle EMD units heads west with Blue Mountain and Carlisle Gap in the distance, just east of Mattawana:

By contrast, here is a photo of an urban part of the layout as it appeared in the 1950's. The image shows the diesel maintenance shop with a set of EMD passenger E units being washed at the facility set near downtown Altoona:

Enjoy that leftover turkey as well as the images!

Well, it's at least a start.  3 weeks of working on it so far - 2 of which were spent laying down the main feeder wires.  about 3 more to go.

Here's a reminder of the track layout to help make sense of the pictures:

the lower level (the red rectangle will be an elevated plateau).  dotted lines for me = ramp

The yardmaster needed to move a block of cars out to the departure track, but the only engine available was the *@#* C1.  He was getting tired of rerailing it after it would go to ground on the sharp east turnouts.  He decided to re-assign a H10 that was getting ready to leave with a local freight.  He knew some customers would complain about a late delivery, but he would rather take the heat for that than mess with the C1.

Both the C1 and H10 are Weaver.  Cars are Atlas.
