I am running some CR switchers around the layout this weekend as I continue to wire my signal system.

While the Conrail MP15s were few in number and didn't stay on the roster a long time, I really like the look of this MTH model.  The sound file is pretty good too & sounds throaty when throttling up, as a non-turbo 645 should.

         That was a great day! Always wanted to go there since I was 5. Thanks Ben and crew. A dream come true.

Well, here you go.   MTH aquarium cars.  Both were slipping gears.  I oiled them both the same, meaning everything that could be oiled without taking the entire mechanism apart.  Batting .500 on these.  I have no explanation why one now works properly and the other still doesn't.

Anyone with any ideas are more than welcome to comment....

Scott,  You do an impressive job rotating the children's display at the VMT.  I visited 5 years ago and I really enjoyed the museum and the museum's 3 rail display.  It is a wonderful way to promote the  hobby.  The Rapid Rabbit Railway is outstanding.

Those P"C units look great!!  I have a early set of MTH RK F-3 locos and they are TINY! Your locos don't look as small.....have MTH F-3's changed?? They look much like WbB size now. thx.

I took this back in October of 2016. This was at Maricopa Live Steamers In Phoenix, Arizona. In next weeks thread I’ll post the owner of this Locos Mikado Which is also NKP. This engine isn’t cheap but runs great.  

We finally got around to applying ballast to one of the new sections of the Casey Jones Hi Railer Layout yesterday.

We have three sections left to complete.

Bill is touching up our work at the end of the day.

Thanks for the kind words. For the most part the mountain and rock face were created using @Rich Battista's method from his video Black Diamond Railway. I think we have watched the section where he goes over how to make mountains 100 times. It is a great video, that section alone is worth the purchase. The only part of the process that was a little different was filling in the gaps between the rock molds. Somehow Rich is able to break up the hydrocal into small rocks and then push into gaps. We tried multiple times and broke a lot of buckets trying to do what he did with no success. We finally landed on letting the hydrocal get to almost a clay like consistency, making small rock like parts at that point, and adding a little more water and pushing in the gaps. Then just spraying like crazy with water to break it back down. With the video that will make sense. I was always amazed when spraying paint on the plaster, going from this solid white block of plaster to what looked like a mountain. It is a time intensive process with the amount we did but we were pleased with overall result. I wish we would have taken a few more pics of the process, but we were covered in plaster when doing it. 

The hill side we made a rough frame using masonite strips. That gave us something we could put some weight onto. On top of those strips we got thick packing paper, crumpled up and stretch back out and laid back onto the masonite. That will give you the overall shape and you can get a good idea what everything will look like. Once we were ready to move on, it was Scott shop towels dipped in the hydrocal and placed on top of that. We have learned to brush back over with a brown or green paint so the white of the plaster doesn't show through too much on the hillside. Then just woodland scenics ground cover. 

I wish I had more to show but we started with the mountain side of the layout so that is where most pictures come from. We are progressing well. Here are a few pics zoomed out to see what is looks like in construction.

Thanks! I'm sure your GG-1 will be a hit & the upgrade is well worth it (ours has PS-2)!  The Williams Pink GG-1s are awesome...  we probably got more comments from visitors on this train than all of my mine combined, and my daughter loves it.  You can't see it in these pictures, but we also updated the passenger cars by putting pictures of all my daughter's favorite stuffed animals in the windows.

Not sure how you are planning on doing your upgrade, but it turns out the frames on the MTH ones and Williams ones are nearly identical (at least for the PS-2 models), so you can pretty much just swap shells if you find a donor
