Weekend Photo Fun starts early (Again).
Last week I had to pick-up my tinplate train from the club that will be closed until further notice.

It has taken two trips in my wife's mini-van to get this done.

Not much done with the layout since the weekend because work has been busy.......

Here are some buildings I assembled as part of the River City 3 Railers annual fund-raiser. These will be included with the 1st prize.....

Those magnets (birthday present in2019) are really helpful. I strongly recommend them if you like to build kits or kit-bash.

Lastly.....always is good to include a train......here is one of the nicest O27 starter sets of the early 60s (my opinion), from 1962......New Haven, of course!

Have been busy painting up some engines for my railway. Just finished the E&N Green a local past short line engine this week just sanded down the former Reading logos and masked and painted over these spots and a yellow stripe down the side as on the real railway. It is not the exact paint scheme to the real engine but close enough I liked the existing green and yellow scheme. The before repaint is shown in the reading scheme in the lower photos behind the CN orange and black engines I painted a little while back. The CN engine with white trim was also in the green and yellow scheme before repainting. The CN engine with Orange trim was a repaint from an MTH engine in a different scheme. Also have a lot of freight cars I am repainting some shown in the photos.

Here is a link to more of the paint and other train projects and home layout.

A H6b, normally relegated to yard work in 1949, is tasked to move a small consist of reefers to a local processing plant where fresh vegetables from the west will be offloaded.  The crew is happy for the change of scenery even if for only one day.

Scott, if everyone behaves themselves you should be back running at the club soon.

Today pictures show a mix of manufacturers.  The H6 is 3rd Rail, the 40' steel reefers are Atlas, the 54' reefer is GGD, the the N5 cabin is MTH.

In the midst of this unfortunate Coronavirus crisis, I accomplished a milestone on my layout. After working on it continuously for almost three years and twenty years after the scene was started, I finally filled a large scenic gap on my layout which extended for about 35 feet, between Mifflin Interlocking and the great curved stone arch bridge traversing Tuscarora Creek. Final work took place with the installation of the bridge railing, and the first train (a double headed K-4 Pacific passenger train) roared over the bridge at 9:58 PM this past Sunday evening.

Here are pictures that show that event, as well as some overall photos of the scene. There are also detail shots of some of the trees I built and the line pole right of way along the tracks. The farm scene I finished a few years ago and the eastern side of the PA Route 75 concrete highway bridge at Port Royal at the edge of the area can be seen too. More images of the the Route 75 bridge to follow next week.

Of note is the fact that the bridge was poured out of 153 lbs of Hydrocal plaster over a period of four hours almost 20 years ago. It has taken that long to get the scene completed. My son who is frequently pictured on here and is now almost age 21 was fast asleep in his crib while his mother and I mixed and poured all that plaster!

Please enjoy the photos and be safe!

Ron,

They were made by Lionel. They are very nice. They did Tuscan units within the last year, but when they showed up, they were orange, so I sent them back...very disappointing.

Thanks Neal I missed those!  Have an affinity for PRR green PA's with correct small boards.  MTH originally made them that way but on later production went to ALCO's large boards which as you know where nothing like the Pennsy "billboards."

SD9  drifting downgrade under the catenary

John,

The scene looks great. Your foliage, structures, track work, lighting, and of course weathered train all make for a very realistic scene. I see your catenary is in. I haven't seen much of your layout since Terry Terrance did his last video of it. In that interview you mentioned that it would be one of the last things you did so you wouldn't have to reach behind it to do major work. That means you have completed a milestone on your layout. Certainly would like to see more of your layout.

Dave

Dave

Thanks. Yes, I have done a lot more since Terry produced that outstanding video.  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAjrZ_t6w28)  The porton of the layout shown in that photo is complete.  I am now working on the four track main through Princeton Junction. I am a bit surprised how much background work (defined as behind the catenary) I still have to do.  But I am getting there.  Here are two examples:

2 rail O scale. And good luck with your diagnostic.

My day Wednesday wasn't going to well we'll work wise, but saw something on eBay that changed everything. Well, delighted to say it got here Friday ahead of projected time, now I just need to get the two remaining cars to the Water Level Freight Set and it will be complete. I got the caboose, the the engine, and now the 8,000 gallon Beacon Oil tank car.IMG_20200404_200738IMG_20200404_200728

I modified the Menards Melrose Park station. I put a filter over the LED strips to tone it down a bit, moved the hand cart and Jack from the back to the front, added steps, smoke stack, put "dirt" under the platform, and added ground cover on the right to match my layout grass. I also changed the sign to "FINN" which was a long gone whistle stop on The Milwaukee Road a little south of Merrill Wisconsin.
