I really wanted to ride 4449 to bend but the crushing cost wasn't something I could justify to my wife.

Instead, I went with a local group of model railroaders to a museum club layout in Chehalis, then rode the steam train with them.

Note on this second photo, there are THREE cabs. One locomotive, a cab controller behind it, and another at the other end. No idea why this is, I've never seen a Cascades like this before.

At Chehalis, I got some video, too:

RALPH M what is the new length of your layout?  Are you planning to double track the second level of the layout over the bridge?  Very nice job!!!

Rick

It used to be 24' so I guess now it's about 26'.     it's either 8 or 10 feet wide depending upon where you measure.

Funny you should mention double tracking the upper route. When I decided to add another loop I came up with several scenarios to accomplish that. One plan was to double track the upper route.  I weighed all the pros and cons and decided that the least amount of pain would be to add another track to the "main line" all the way around the layout.  Now that I've survived that the idea of double tracking the upper is still in the back of my mind.  Maybe someday.

Thanks Lou, how's things in Richfield?

Keeping way more than busy.  Have been experimenting with some more model rr electronics.  Really need to just run some trains!

Lee, sweet. Where does that siding go to. Seems like a pretty good grade............Paul

This is the joint BNSF/UP/Amtrak main at Nisqually, WA. That 'siding' is actually the new Amtrak main line bypassing a bottleneck tunnel near Tacoma. Cascades and the Coast Starlight will be going up and down the steep grade there. Passenger trains should be going up and down it before the end of this summer.
