Weekend Photo Fun 7-17-15-??

My weekend is starting out fantastic.  I got to see my 17th heritage unit come through town.  Only 3 more to go!

Who can guess where this picture was taken?

Jeff at JDS LTD did a PS-2 upgrade on mine. It also has a Fat Boy speaker, Proto smoke, Proto coupler, LED lighting and he repaired a broken front step while he was at it. I could not be more pleased.

You also well captured the problematic paint job on the 20-20275-1 Savannah & Atlanta Heritage unit.  As discussed in older threads, the white stripe is too narrow and the road name is nearly invisible.

It would be great if MTH would reissue the S&A Heritage with the proper width Tuxedo white stripe and visible lettering in gold Dulux.  MTH is already reissuing the Pennsylvania Heritage in the 2015 v2 catalog, so the precedent is there.  This would finally complete the series with perhaps the most classic of all the Heritage styles done right.  Of course, demand drives production.  But hope is eternal.

Hello Panther97, It was for 2 reasons, #1 the Southern is one of my favorite railroads along with Norfolk Southern and Norfolk & Western. #2 The Southern was one of the 1st Premier engines released by MTH when they started shipping the NS Heritage units..........rogerw..

And lots of kudos and respect to you for that. 

I recall your detailed comments in the older threads.  I too kept my MTH version for similar reasons and then bought the Lionel from my same dealer so I'd have a better looking version to run.  Painful on the wallet, but the right thing to do.  Hopefully a certain manufacturer might do the right thing too...   

Hello RidgeRunner, This is the 2nd Southern engine where the paint job was wrong. The 1st engine that had the wrong paint job was MTH-Premier Southern SD-24 engine (PS-2). It was painted in Southern Green (I know that isn't the correct name for color). It was cataloged with the tuxedo scheme and instead MTH painted it green. I spoke to MTH about it and they told me that I could return it to my LHS for my money back or they would send me a correctly painted shell when they re-release the correct painted version. I decided to keep the Southern Green version.

River City 3 Railer's new bridge for our walk-through! This is 28" x 9.5". Bridge Boss was incredible to work with.

    You are correct. You need a Lionel 6001T tender for the 6110 engine. The 6110 engine was part of the Scout set that got me involved with this hobby in the first place. My parents gave me that set in 1950 when I was five years old, and I still have it!

Yes it is...Gargraves donated all the track and we installed it over a couple of months. We still have some fine tuning to do on it.

Had a business trip to Cincinnati this week and found a little extra time to see the train sights! If you ever make it to Cincy you have to check out the awesome Union Terminal! The old control tower is open Wednesday through Sunday and makes for some great train viewing in the yard as the intermodal traffic is non-stop. I was told the Tropicana orange juice train also rolls right through the yard!!

Ann Arbor (WAMX 3879) at Ottawa Yard in Toledo, OH. This unit was repainted this past month and after a petition by Ann Arbor employees to Watco, they kept the DT&I orange paint scheme the unit received when the AA bought the engine from Conrail in the 80's.

Finished up weathering the EM1 and more work on scenery and the town.

A few layout photos....

The trolley stops at the station. In my area (Potomac, MD) we have lots of old abandoned electric railway lines. The National Capital Trolley Museum is also nearby. 

My B&O F3 leads a short freight on the upper loop. 

This pickup truck in Western Maryland livery caught my eye at Engine House Hobbies last week or the week before. I need another pickup truck on my layout like I need a hole in my head but this caught my eye in the case and told Ken, the store owner, to pack 'er up. 

My new CSX Imperial ES44 was pulling a C&O Passenger train on the outer loop. 

Soon to be replaced by Amtrak, which I hadn't run in several months. 

My new Long Island Imperial 2-8-2 Mikado was on the inner loop but replaced with my Y6B with a freight train. 

Gotta go.....now off to the Corned Beef King for an early lunch....

It also occurred to me that Monday, 7/20 marks 2 years since I left the local park railroad as the engineer, assistant manager, etc. Time flys! Never thought I'd say it but I do occasionally miss those days....

281 was one of the last built with a smoker....

That whole entrance way, crowned by that facade, tells us how travel by trains was viewed back in those days, doesn't it. Reminds me, in emotional tone, message and drama, of the approach to the Chateau de Versailles from the gardens and fountain side of the palace outside Paris

GEF, Your scenery is always so masterfully done, I actually find myself often looking more carefully and second and third times to make sure I am not seeing real life. Apparently - very, very apparently - you know exactly of what you speak. I have seen many small towns and neighborhoods like the ones you have crafted as I grew up and traveled around Appalachia and can readily see the truth of what you craft, including the engines you have selected to include. Wow. And WOW again.

Had a chance to take the new Golden Gate Depot - El Capitan down to Old Town San Diego and run on Gary Hickok's layout. Its a an ABBA set of TMCC F7's with 2 powered units, the lead A and B, and ran all day for 6 hours, pretty much non stop. I had another B unit but the dang coupler wouldn't stay closed due to the weight of the train. I hate 3R couplers!

I don't like the Lionel F7's for many reasons, but I have to say....they ran all day with no problems. The Odessey system worked great, and kept them at a constant speed up and down the grade.

The CAB LIGHTS bug me and are getting ripped out, and Kadees.
