Nice Photos Everyone!

As I prepare to build a new layout,  I have some ideas in mind, but have not settled on an exact plan. So, I borrowed an idea from another local O-gauger: Have a layout planning party with the local train guys.  (Also an excuse to eat, drink and socialize).  I provided my layout requirements and preferences, scale-sized floor-plan templates for the basement, pencils, markers, and tape-measures for the guys to brainstorm and sketch ideas and concepts.

Here are some of the guys at work coming up with ideas as my wife dubbed the event, "Trainstorming 2012":

Chet and Wes have their priorities straight, while Bob and Zac draw near the food.  Joe's got a story for Dave and Lynn in the background, while I stuff food in my mouth.

The guys came up with some great ideas that I can include in the final design.

Tiffany,

I have all my stuff packed away until October York.  The truck came with the Pepsi machine that you also see in the picture.  It's not some elaborate name, I'm sure of that.

If I have some time I'll dig it out and get back to you.

Tiffany I can help you with Pepsi truck. Contact me. Email is in my profile.

Bob

I didn't see your comment earlier Bob.  Thank you for working with Tiffany - you've saved me an hour of unpacking stuff to find it.

Tiffany, if for some reason you want for me to still look up mine let me know - it's not that inconvenient to unpack if it means helping out someone.

What a truly fantastic idea, Anthony!

Thanks Allan, but I can't take credit for the idea.  Charlie Campbell who's in one of the pictures had a similar event several years back and the idea stuck with me.  We had a great time hosting, and I am thankful to the guys for sharing ideas.

Frank,

I really do not know if this is real or "Photoshopped" I just got it from a friend on Facebook and he did not know either. I just thought that some of the guys that dig scenery would smile when they see this.

I got it several years ago from Niedzalkoski's Train Shop in Jeannette, PA.  I'm pretty sure that it was the only one they had when I bought it.  It is an Atlas O NE-6 caboose item #6677 and is listed as a limited edition.

I used to work on 7th Street NW in DC.   Wasn't there an S. S. Kresge's at the corner of 7th and E?  This store was operating well into the 1980s, well into the kmart era.Originally Posted by Sam:

Your Woolworth's with the red and white stripe awning in the 3rd picture is great. Brought back memories of the one in downtown Washington DC, 7th St. We would love to see additional shots of it.

Thanks

These is actually three on Route 78 - one at MM 44 the other at Exit 45. They serve a dual purpose to get wildlife across the highway through the Watchung (Park) Reservation. The access road pictured goes to some sort of science monitoring station on the hillside in the reservation.

I stand corrected as I believe you are right. I have killed off too many brain cells apparently. I DO remember the terrific Half Smokes from there as part of our Christmas shopping downtown. That included a swing by Corrs hobby shop on 9th street. This was back in the early 60's.

There was a Woolworths (or perhaps a Kresges) in Anocostia on Good Hope Road that had the stripped awning.
