Joe A, nice work on the Rutland boxcar. I had to double check who was posting because it looks like SIRT's work.

Alex another fine build. I have one of those sand houses still in the box.  I bought it from Ernie Korber himself at a long ago train show at Stony Brook University here on Long Island.  Whenever I get around to building it I hope it comes out half as good as yours.

It's a warm summer evening in Spencer and we see Myrtle waiting for her husband to pick her up after work.  A young lady is in Sportsman's of Spencer getting golf lessons from the pro and some tips on a new set of clubs that are sure to improve her game.  Wardell Buffet, Warren's younger brother, is catching up on the day's stock market results and wishes he had invested in railroad stocks too.  And traffic is moving again now that Spencer's new traffic signals are working at the corner of Main and Fourth Streets.

I like that there is a story behind what we are seeing. Hopefully Wardell finds something to invest in.

Here in Spencer, NC at S. Salisbury Ave. (N. Main St out of Salisbury) and 4th you will find the Little Choo Choo Shop selling toy trains.  Across the street is the NC Transportation Museum (Old Southern Shops). No Wardell Buffet that i know of.

Here is the mural on wall two blocks north.

Here are a few shots of the town of Port Royal. Most of the structures are done, though I have a few more houses to build. First photo shows three kits where I chopped off about the front inch to use in front of the backdrop. The second photo shows two full size buildings. Sully's Tavern is right out of the box and not a kit and the corner building is a heavily reworked MTH structure.

I build my towns on 2 inch thick pink foam in the workshop as evidenced by the furnace, tools, etc., in the background. When done, I drop the whole town into the layout.

Lots more work to do...sidewalks, utility poles, street weathering, but it's getting there...

Frank, Pat and Mark D, great pics again. You guys are an inspiration to how scenes should look. PRRMIDDLEDIVISION, your buildings are well done. Tonight I decided to add two braces to the back of the angular building I am working on. Once I glued them into place I turned the building on its side and used my trusty weight to hold them together till the glue dries. Mark you can see once more I was still too lazy to go use the table I built for this exact purpose. Still hoping sometime tomorrow to cut the roof and base and glue them into place. Hi Joe

Thank very much for the kind words

Alex

Some more 1:1 action from this week. I got some interesting lash-ups for sure! A rare CN GMD-1 joins GTW GP40-2 for some local switching.

IMG_3827

CN GP9RM and GTW GP38-2.

IMG_3813

Another rarity around here. A UP flared radiator SD70M leads a pair of CN SD70M-2s on an Eastbound freight.

IMG_3843IMG_3846

A pair of CN/IC Dash-8 "Blue Devils" running a Westbound freight. Notice the hand painted number board on 2456 and the patch work on the 2455. A couple of cool modelling potentials.

What was the old Flemington Station, and the trestle over Hampton Corner.IMG_20180721_074407069[1]IMG_20180721_082507499[1]IMG_20180721_082515829[1]The old station is now a bank. I don't know what it was after being the station, but I do remember it being a small restaurant for a number of years in the 90's. It wasn't a bad place to eat, can't remember what it was called, just remember eating there a few times. The trestle I think has a build date from the 1920's(maybe 1920), think it is on the support.

I can't tell you how many times the bridge has been hit and made trailers become accordions, but it is quite a lot. So far this year I think it has been hit twice. One year I think it had been hit at least 4 or 5 times in 2 months.

The RICHARDSON TRGX 3-bay covered hopper was built by National Steel Car. It has not been made in any scale yet. Somebody like Atlas, Bachmann, or MTH would need to make the NSC  3-bay covered hoppers in N, HO, S, & O all at the same time so we could get these covered hoppers in O scale.

But what color schemes do you have for this model besides boring battleship grey?

Jeff,  that looks AWESOME, what a great looking build.  That will look really nice on your layout, I've been following your build now for a while and I really love what you've done with this kit.  I wish I had one but I held off when they came out.  My loss.  Terrific work and choice of colors, the detailing looks good also.  Very nice job and thanks so much for sharing your work.

Hi J Motts,

thank you you so much for you very kind words.   It’s taken me a while, but there was a decent amount of kitbashing and trying new techniques.   Plus, I only get about one hour a day to work on the build.

i think I know someone selling a bordello kit.  If you are interested, shoot me an email from my profile, and I will give you his contact info.

thanks again,

jeff

Andrew, nice looking cars, are these scale in size or semi-scale or traditional size.  I'm not all that familiar with the Lion stuff so the reason for my question.  I remember switching those out back in the day when I was a switchman.  Thanks for sharing.

The Potash Corp. has short versions of these covered hoppers.

The Canadian National and the Canadian Pacific have ordered new National Steel Car covered hoppers.

CN is buying new, 55-foot eight-inch jumbo hopper cars with 5,431 cubic feet of capacity.

The cars will be built by National Steel Car Ltd. at the company’s Hamilton plant.

"National Steel Car is very pleased that CP has committed to this significant investment in our industry-leading, 5,431 cubic foot, high-efficiency, Covered Hopper Grain Car. This newly designed and manufactured National Steel Car equipment will provide huge benefits to CP, our economy, and the entire grain delivery supply chain,"

My sincere Thanks to these Forum voices who sent me
