Last Friday under the "buy anything new" topic I posted some (these) pics of my just received "get."  Also a caveat that I was going to add a special detail.

Well some how I found the time to extract and add the detail of the Navy Sailor (figure) standing post at the head of President Bush's casket during the trip.

Happy Friday everyone!

I'm back from a little train break for the past few months. After playing the game of musical chairs w/ kids rooms, etc it turned out that the baby would wind up getting the room the layout was in. My wife was kind enough to give me the office downstairs to put a layout in, so that's what I've been working on of late.

My youngest son is obsessed with the trains, so my goal is to make a semi realistic looking layout but not go crazy on detail & fragile buildings & accessories. This way the kids could touch them & I don't have to worry. So that means Lionel or MTH buildings instead of Woodland Scenics for example. Remember, it's ALL about getting kids involved & making it be fun! Hope to have some pics soon to share.

One thing I did recently get was the Lionchief+ Conrail Rectifier. Have to say I'm pretty impressed.

I also spent a few days each of the last few months in PA documenting the last remaining days of the classic PRR signals on the west slope of the Pittsburgh Line ( see my post in the Real Trains section if you want to see some of the pics)

Welcome back Christopher.  It looks like my future layout is going to be in a spare bedroom instead of a much larger bonus room I had been hoping for.  That realization made me think of your layout(s) of the last few years and the fact that I didn't remember too many posts from you recently.

Thanks. Sometimes you need a break to kind of clear your mind.   I have been pretty good with trying to squeeze layouts in small spots but I know how challenging it can be.  Wish you luck!  Just realize, you probably can't fit everything you want. To me, the key of a small layout is not to jam pack it with everything we want/have. Leave some space & let it breathe.

Santa Fe Northern 2926 in Albuquerque, NM.  The engine was on tour during the TCA  National Convention.  The boiler lagging (insulation) and covers were not installed when these photos were taken.  They are going to be installed after the boiler pressure test.  The cylinders had not been installed yet.  The restoration group expected that the engine will be able to move on its own power in late fall.  NH Joe
