Happy Friday!

Let's see your railfan photos from the week!

With a couple days to go before Christmas, NS OLS painted Dash-9 9252 is leading an eastbound 700 series coal train through Riverside on the old Virginian.

A rare SD70M is on the point of westbound 67X as it ducks under the now removed 257 intermediates on the Pittsburgh Line's west slope.

A pair of CSX GE motors is seen heading through Homestead, PA with a coal train on the ex P&LE Pittsburgh Sub

An oddity in the helper pool was this pair of SD60Es being used for a short time. We see them digging in as 66X drops down the slide in Gallitzin, PA.

NS ET44AC 3621 leads a westbound FRA inspection train through Chirstiansburg, VA in evening light

As dusk approaches, Amtrak's Pennsylvanian departs Altoona with the final destination of Pittsburgh just a couple of hours away.

Also, I'm proud to announce that I was approached by a publishing company to create a book using some of my photos. It was a year long effort to edit them, write all the material & get everything squared away, but the book is now out & available from major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, etc. Check it out !

Nice work Chris and congratulations on having your work published.

Of course, I've always liked your train layout photos too, especially the postwar inspired layouts. I don't know how many layouts you've built, but you must have a very forgiving wife .

Thank you.   At this point, I've built too many layouts to count, but that's part of the fun

I like the Pan Am scheme.  Wish I was closer to go shoot some!

Christopher,

My house is .4 miles (6min walk) from Pan Am Rigby Yard.   There's usually something interesting to photograph.   Pan Ams newest locomotives are ex CSX Dash 8's built in the late 80's.   Still lots of GP40's from CN and Conrail heritage.   Makes train watching fun.

I was surprised that the family took us to the museum while we were down in the Carolina's. Got my goofy look together enough for pics with the grandkids.

I had been there before but I didn't want to spoil the surprise. A friend of mine did work there and guided us thru last time down.

On the way home we also made a detour to visit Strasburg again. Rode that train twice now too.

Last train!

I took this photo in the Winter of '82. For several months there hadn't been a train on the old PRR Pittsburgh-Buffalo line but one day I heard a train and toot this pic. It was the last train....ever....on that railroad. IIRC the next Summer they tore up the track. It is a Railtrail now.

According to my 1947 PRR timetable:

It took 9.5 hr for the trip from Pittsburgh to Buffalo and you could do it in the comfort of a Pullman bed.
