OK....the last 20 hours of comments on this thread were complaints about it being moved to the photo category.  For those of you that have been on this forum for any length of time realize that we have been moving threads that are primarily photos and videos to the proper forum which is the photo section.  This has been going on for many months now.  What surprises me is the level of anger some of you guys have when changes take place on the forum....  You immediately go on the attack with all kinds of negative comments ranging from how inept the management is here to making statements about how our readership/subscriptions are going down because we make these kinds of decisions!.....absolutely amazing.  First of all...every one of you that questioned this move openly on this thread did nothing to help the thread and at the same time went against our TOS by doing so....therefore, your posts were deleted just like we say we will do.

It seems that as the years go by on this forum, more and more folks have less and less tolerance and respect for each other.  If something changes and/or doesn't go their way, then it is fair game to immediately go on the attack and make statements that are designed to inflict as much damage as possible.  It is the sign of our times I guess but OGR has determined that we are not going to let that happen here if we can help it.  If our forum is not meeting your expectations and you can not approach us FIRST without having to openly on the forum bash and belittle a decision the mods have made, then perhaps you should consider another place....just say'in...  I mean guys....how darned hard is it to do a search for your favorite threads on this forum???  Or have we just gone to the point that it is more fun to whine and stir discontent....??

OK...so lets take a deep breath here and try your best to give us the benefit of the doubt that we are trying to do our best.  We are not going to make everyone happy....  Please, no more negative comments here...just post your Tinplate photos and videos and enjoy!

Hi guys. Let me just add to Alan’s comments. THIS IS NOT A BIG DEAL! In light of what’s going on in the world right now this is a bump in the road. As the creator of this thread I will still be adding emoji’s to the title which can be found pretty Easily on the right hand side column. Let’s remember why we’re here; to relax and share our tinplate with each other and leave some of our daily stress behind us not create more of it!  This thread will go on every week as it always has will just have to scroll down a little further. Everyone stay safe and go run some trains 🚂

Firstly I will apologise for my comment, but like the others that commented I think you will find many of us are avid tinplaters and as such feel/felt that the weekend photo thread was a long running positive contribution to the tinplate section , and wasnt so much a "photo album" , but rather a direct opportunity to share knowledge and discuss new arrivals/unseen items in our collections, and as such was a valid positive contribution to the tinplate section specifically ...

I know myself through these posts I have learnt far more than I have elsewhere on the more obscure and international marques , and indeed probably would NOT have found that knowledge and comraderie without these threads in the tinplate area .

That said its your house and your decision , I get that fully and can see your reasoning behind it

I think in the moment we maybe felt a little "banished" and reacted , as we can understand your viewpoint , I hope you might understand ours , you are very right that in the trying times we are entering , there is far bigger things to rage against

Fatman. Thanks for your comments. When I started this thread way back” I can’t even remember when” I had no idea it would have such a positive reaction to the tinplate  community. All of the positive things you mentioned is the core of this thread and none of it will change one bit. We just moved into a different house.🏡   Stay well.    Chris.

And now the big stuff- American Flyer standard gauge 4696 4-4-2 "Piper" steam loco with a 4693 Vanderbilt tender. Pulling a freight train of various Lionel and Dorfan cars. In Part 2, the electric takes over, Lionel 408E dual motor electric. Also featuring the Orobr clockwork power plant / conveyor. Enjoy.

It takes a few clicks now to come over here, but it's always worth it, John, to drool over your layout and videos. What is the awesome coal loader in this video?

Alan, I hope you don't mind one comment on the move which I hope would be constructive. Since almost all threads now are heavy on photos and videos, would it make sense to organize them strictly by the type of trains they include? Let me give another reason that might make sense. Say I am new to the form and the hobby and have an interest in pre-war trains. I would naturally go to the tinplate forum. How would I find this thread unless I knew where it was? I would think all the tinplate topics were in that forum. We only knew to come here because of the new topic directing us here.  I think this is probably the most informative and enjoyable thread on tinplate of all, so I would hate for anyone to miss it.

Either way, I hope your household recovers fully. That is of far greater concern than where a topic ends up. And there is no place for uncivil remarks. Thanks for all you do.

Will ..... That is a constructive comment..and the kind I appreciate.  Sometimes decisions are made that don't take into account certain scenarios.  The way you put it above is something that perhaps we did not consider along those lines.  Once a thread becomes large and mostly photos, moving it to the photo category made sense for a number of reasons from the aspect of copyright moderation....but....perhaps in the cases of members likely taking their own photos of their trains, along with your reasoning above, it doesn't make as much sense.  Perhaps we need to take another look at this.  I will do so asap!

Again, thanks for taking the time to make a positive suggestion and thanks so much for the well wishes!

Do a google search for Orobr clockwork power plant.

One with photo sold for $150 on ebay a long while ago.

This is not john's, there are small details.

These are really fun. There's actually one on Ebay right now (no connection to me).  Publisher's note:  Ebay direct link removed to comply with OGR TOS.

I had never heard of Orobr, but an Ebay search of just the name found a lot of beautiful stuff. The cars are gorgeous. Thanks, both for the tip. (Pretty much out of my price range, though, although there is a Model T that is reasonable so far)

The relocating of a weekly photo heavy thread to the photo albums sections makes sense in some cases. For example the Switcher Saturday thread.  That thread had long defined itself as being open to switcher of all gauges, both model and prototype, so staying in the 3 rail forum didn't really compute.  The argument against moving the weekly tinplate thread is that the subject matter is very narrow in the grand scheme of things.  There is also usually some discussion and trading of knowledge involved somewhere along the way.

There was a great deal of push back against moving Switcher Saturday, but that was also when the TOS against posting copyrighted images was starting to be enforced.  That double whammy meant the thread lost several participants, some of whom are now working their way back.

I will find the weekend tinplate thread either way, as will any who cares to look, but it was nice to have the tinplate topics grouped together.  I appreciate the OGR staff, and Alan I hope your family heals quickly.

IMG_5871 I had posted a few of these photos some time ago on a different thread . This is my green 390E with a 392 tender close behind . I did a few things here . #1, I switched out  my black boiler for this green one , I already have a 390E in black . #2, I had the green paint of the boiler matched by the local auto body shop  so I could paint the tender . The tender by the way is a MTH tender that I got at an auction so time ago . #3, After dismantling the tender and painting it  I set it on my test circle to see how much I could shorten the draw bar . I drilled a new hole about a half inch closer to the tender to close the gap . #4 ,  I added a Dallee whistle and bell system in the tender . Its not very loud but good for me . #5 , I then added some Ballast King rubber (coal) to the tender load top .   #6,  not done yet .  I want to switch out the rail stanchions on the boiler to the 400E stanchions . Why ? Because I foolishly picked up my engine  by the boiler and pulled a few of the stanchions out !!  One day I would like to find another 392 tender and elongate  it by an inch or two to make a long haul tender . IMG_5870IMG_5869IMG_5868

I just bought the one on eBay. It's coming from Russia, so I may not get it until June!  I've been watching it. It was listed awhile back, but then not listed again until this week. I was worried you would create competition for me when you mentioned it. It has a blue or green railing instead of red. I would have preferred red, but these are hard to find. One went at live auction several years ago for well over $200.

There are also Russian knock offs available by Vatutina Kiev called the "Big Machine". They are all pretty pricey.
