Got my first piece of Fandor this week too.  Needs a cleaning, some wheels and a roof, but it was cheap.. The nicotine on it is very thick, have to get that removed without destroying the litho.. I hope the litho is as tough as the JEP litho was.  Can one of you post a picture showing the roof profile by chance?

A Vedes clockwork train set (Bing for the Spanish Market**)

** Not true - see Arne's post below

***Added later today - I looked up the the name Arne provided (Vereinigung Deutscher Spielwarenhändler) in the German Wiki and found a couple of other interesting items - the group that chose the name "VEDES" was founded in 1904 in Leipzig.  They took the name "VEDES" in 1920 and moved the main headquarters to Nurnberg in 1929.  The first trademark they chose was a Christmas tree with three candles and the logo "VEDES"  at the tree base - the trademark in the lower left hand corner of the box cover.

The cover promise

...and the box contents

It is worth noting that neither the name nor the Bing logo appear anywhere on the lithography nor does it appear on the box cover.  All of the cars are lithoed with "Vedes" for the passenger car name.  However, the embossed Bing logo, in the form of the nested BW, is on the underside of the frames and on the ties for the track.

Here you go Dennis - it is just a simple rolled arch - no embossing of any kind.

...an additional thought - that nicotine stain may not be.  My car has an overcoat of clear which has yellowed in a more or less random fashion giving the car an appearance of needing cleaning.

Robert, you may be right, but it has a fairly rough almost tar like feel to it.  I tested the end of the car and it does seem to come off, but of course, I need to temper my efforts.  After it is off, the surface is smooth as you would expect.  I'll post a pic of the end I was working on later.

Very nice, Steve.  Any luck with getting the Shay to run?

Also, while I'm thinking of it...how have you attached track to your layout covered in carpet? Thanks to your instructions/video my outer loop of 5-rail is complete, running well, and ready to be more permanently fastened. The table is carpet/homasote on plywood. Size/length of screws? Rubber washers?  Thanks!

Rob, the shay runs but has swollen wheels so it wants to climb the track in corners. I need to try and grind a bit off the back side, or replace the motor assemblies with new Keeler units. I prefer to fix what's there. The side rod unit will need to be disassembled to repair a broken crank journal, but that does not affect running the engine. As to the track, each loop has one screw in each corner, just enough to keep it from shifting.

Thanks for the info on track fastening, Steve.  Good luck with getting the Shay fully operational - very nice piece!
