Wenesday Photos 4/4/2012

I wanted to get some "fresh" photos up today, and actually caught  a train in action on the Canadian Pacific Railway line in PA.  However, I was delayed by other activities. 

... and here we are with CP's local known as D11.  The train was switching boxcars at Valley distributing in Laflin, PA.  This was once a Georgia Pacific warehouse.

The units are a former Boston & Maine GP40, still in Guilford colors, and former Lehigh Valley GP38-2 in Canadian Pacific's Dual Flags livery.

The conductor told me the shipments were light today.  By lunchtime, this crew would be done with work for the day.  

Thank you, Ed, for starting the thread.  I hope many of the fans out there will contribute their photos of real railroading.  Have a Happy Easter, everyone!  Also, Happy Passover, which starts in a few days, too.

Leaser GMTX 9059 crossing Railroad Ave. in Plainfield

SD-60 GMTX 9059 leads a train west toward interchange with New England Central at Willimantic

That Berea restaurant looks really cool.  I sure hope someone buys it and keeps it going.  I didn't get much this week--too busy horsing around Sioux Center, IA.

The trees in my neighborhood are in full bloom (just like in this photo) adding to the cheerfulness of this sunny day, in our part of the country. I told my wife the other day to look at the blooming tree in front of our house as she was pulling out of the driveway.

What I like most about this weekly thread is the ability to

see whats been happening over the past week - since the

last thread.  Otherwise, it could just be called "Random

photos".  I suppose that's my own unique view but at

the very least, some dates would be greatly appreciated!

Locations too!

Incidentally - does anyone know what has happened to

the NKP #757?  It's no longer on display outside at the

Pennsylvania Railroad Museum.  Maybe it's up for cosmetic

restoration?

Just my opinion, but I also prefer more information about photos, such as date AND location.

Western Maryland Scenic Railway in January of 2012.  Just east of the Frostburg station.

N&W #475 working the branch-line - a photo from days long gone.

Paradise, PA on the Strasburg Railroad 4-7-12.

The Strasburg Rail Road (3 words) may have a train that long, but I doubt there ever was one than long on the N&W

One of my favorite CNJ photos...shows passenger equipped GP-7 diesels eastbound at Morgan, NJ on the jointly-operated NY & LB RR (with PRR). This photo was taken in 1956 and one of the diesels...1532...was involved in Newark Bay Bridge disaster in Sept. 1958. It is also unique in that it shows 2 CNJ GPs on a freight train...loaded leased B&O sand cars from Lakehurst, NJ to Jersey City for the World Trade Center construction site.

I was able to re-create this scene, at least with the diesels and train, on Corsair29's layout a few weeks ago.

Well now, I wouldn't say that  ; )

But, I suspect you are correct, most branch line service on the N&W I've come across

seems limited to only 2 or 3 passenger cars often mixed in with freight.

Still, it would seem odd that would be the case throughout N&W's history and territory.

And correct you are - 3 words.  I'll have to bring that up with the folks on RP who

have made me accustomed to "Railroad".

My some branch line there......  Yeah 2 or 3 tops.

Probably should be the NS heritage look.  Did CNJ ever have freight units painted up in tangerine and blue?  (Not to say, like KCS, they wouldn't have elected to show off a more colorful scheme down the road).

I too like descriptions of the rail pictures that are taken and when they were taken.

Some photographers make the effort of giving good descriptions and that is great for the readers. And here are two of my favorites added to this week's thread:

IMHO, which is not always so humble, this one looks better with the Snow Man in front - see attached.

The snowman is nice, but I MUCH prefer some of your other stand-ins!
