Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering if these people were ever TCA members:

  1. Tom Snyder
  2. Mandy Patinkin
  3. Neil Young
  4. Jack Wheelihan (@Hot Water)
  5. Tim Cooper of Smoky Mountain Trains
  6. David Minarik (@David Minarik)
  7. Jim McIntosh (featured in O Gauge Railroading magazine June/July 2013 issue as the cover story and in the DVD “Great Layout Adventures 10″)

I wanted to ask this since there are many people on the forum who might've personally known these people or have heard about them, and they might have an answer.

Dave has been to York so I would say yes for him.

I saw and spoke with Neil Young several times at York.

He was very approachable - a regular guy. I'm sure he is (was) a TCA member.

I remember him in the Lionel exhibit near the old Yellow hall doing demonstrations with Lionel - answering any questions anyone had about the new control systems. It may be too much info, but he was next to me in the restroom next to the First aid station. I also remember the small plane pulling a "Long Live Lionel" banner that I believe was his doing. Too bad he has not been there in many years.

Neil Young used to be a member.  I never met him, but think I saw him in passing once at York, and have heard stories of people meeting him.  I think he dropped out after auctioning off a lot of his stuff a couple of years ago.

When I first joined in 2016 and looked him up, I did not see his name. 2017 was the year he auctioned off a lot of his stuff. So, I think he dropped out before he auctioned it off. Dropping out was probably his first step. But I agree with both of you, @Mallard4468 and @Lionelski that he is (was) a TCA member - high chance!

Lionel ski,

Neil joined our AOL online gang BBQ we had on the York fairgrounds back in 1998 or 1999. I think you were a AOL’er back then and was there. I invited Neil to join us and yes he did, bringing the family to our shindig.
I remember him coming straight for me, pulling out smoke fluid and pretend to squirt some on my food plate.
Neil is just like the rest of us, could talk trains for hours!

I don't know about Tom Snyder or Mandy Patinkin, but the interview involving the two of them on Snyder's late night talk show remains one of my favorites. They talk a lot about York, however, so I assume that Patinkin is/was a TCA member. BTW, there are several other segments to this interview that I have not posted.

@jay jay I guess you're right. I watched that episode partially, and I think Tom Snyder was the one who brought up the topic about York. Also, Mandy Patinkin talked about York in both that episode and TM's Celebrity Train Layouts Part III. So, I would say both Mandy Patinkin and Tom Snyder were TCA Members.

But I never got an answer regarding Jack Wheelihan. I also forgot to ask about Mr. Charles Griffin, owner and chief operator of Misty Mountain RR. Were Jack Wheelihan and Charles Griffin TCA Members?
