This will be my first York ( most wouldn't believe it seeing I grew up about 45 miles from it) But figured since I'm retired it's about time. Now to me it will probably be something in the postwar period. A lot of the new stuff I'm not that interested in as normally beyond what I want to pay for something. Would like to find a couple of set boxes I need and maybe even boxes for cars/engines. But that will not be high on my list. I'll be just looking and if something strikes my fancy I may check it out closer.

That and meeting some of the people I talk with on the forums

While not seriously looking, I tend to adopt any excellent condition 2457 Lionel postwar metal caboose with steps that looks lonely on a dealer's table. They were only offered in 1945-47, and one came with my first train set on Christmas 1946. As commonplace as they were, it is hard to find them in excellent condition. The 5 that I have, so far, have ranged in price from $20. to $60. All 5 are slightly different from each other (something I did not realize when buying them). I have attended a number of York meets without finding one, but at the last York, I found two.

I can tell you that I will NOT be looking for 9200 / 9400 / 9700 / 19200 series boxcars. The ones that people sell new in the box for 10 or 20 bucks. I will not be looking for those at all. And somehow I will still come home with 6 or 8 of them!

You mean like this?????

I'm actually going to deliver much more than I expect to buy (like I said last time and bought 2 standard gauge sets).

Three lucky people are going to take delivery of a freshly built SP Daylightstandard gauge set with Lee Lines GS4 and sets of 4 or 5 passenger cars in matching red/orange/silver and black paint. All made from the original parts that have been waiting patiently to be finished for the past 35 years.

But if I happen to see a JAD or Gold Standard GG1 at the right price, well

I've been putting together a set of the Madison car re-issues. Still need Baggage (19011) and Observation (19018).  Still looking for decent price on the bakelite scale reissue stock car (51402) and stock car (51301). Would love to find a clean 2032 Erie Alco pair.

Since I fly, I have to consider carry-on space impacts, so I limit myself to one pair of underwear, socks and clothes.  Just kidding about that part, but I have run into folks who think that way!

.....all my friends.......already have more trains than I will ever need (though, I still manage to get one or two). However, it truly is an opportunity to see everyone....

I always enjoy meeting Forum members who are York 1st timers.....if you see me, please introduce yourself.......I'm the middle-aged guy who has been described as the dork with the bow tie and the nerd glasses......

Structure kits, brass side door cabooses (York is a lousy place to find either), but new, interesting to me, prototypes, and manufacturers( yes, it is possible.... Think Menards). It just dawned on me that the lack of new prototypes might be due to an inability to get molds back, therefore nobody will invest in new molds? Without that, will be lucky to find different ice cream shops and Amish buffets.

Ken, the Welz pans are just ok.  The hot set up for your E-60 is the pans from the Atlas AEM-7.  I have done up a few and they work and look great.  If you need a photo, let me know.  That Atlas pan is the only one that is perfectly sprung for operating catenary.  I was going to use them on my Alela before we got the word a Legacy Acela may be coming.   I have a few sets of Welz Metroliners and run one live using the stock pans.

I will be on the hunt for the following:

1) Lionel's new theater camera car at their booth!

2) An Atlas 3 rail conductor dome car.

3) Say Hi to Alex M, John Will, Lee Willis, Mr. Muffins, Mike R., and many, many, more ( I always like to say hello to the OGR staff, even though I only see them once or twice a year.

4) A few Yuenglings - We cannot get these in Michigan.

5) The Latest DCS TIU and remote

6) A case of Hershey Bars for the family

7) A legacy K4, and anything that is a good deal really!

8) K line UP 21 inch cars

9) Ross RH regular switches

10) New technology and new products.

Do you think BLI will be there with their new O scale animated water tower?

Don't feel alone.  This will be only my second trip to York.  I live in Fort Washington, alittle less than two hours away.  And I've been in the hobby for over forty years !

While I hope to see and talk to some good folks I haven't seen in 6 months, I also plan to go to the user groups and attend seminars to catch up on what is new.

And I will be looking for items on my short buy list.  These include car numbers I don't have for Atlas PRR X29 express boxcars and Weaver B60 RPO and baggage cars.  May pick up some MTH PRR R50b reefers and their 40' and 50' PRR Merchandise Service boxcars (pre-1950 scheme).

There are three engines on my list, but not sure I would get them at this York unless I find them at a very good price.  They are the 3rd Rail PRR Q1, 3rd Rail PRR H6b, and the new Railking PRR H10-44.  Without a full layout and showcase area at this time, they would just take up space so I may wait.

Good Question.

It will be interesting to see what will be available? I know the BTO has crushed the great blow outs seen in the past, however I have seen allot of items that seem to be hanging around. I am a Lionel Legacy operator so I will have my eye out for possibly....

1) Good prices on the Heavy Weight Mikado. Seem to be a bunch of these still floating around.

2) Maybe a Vision Line GG1?

3) Some Legacy E7's, E8's?

4) The elusive Lionel Legacy Union Pacific Pa's

5) A JLC Allegheny

6) Scale Brown box cars are always a hit

7) Scale steel side reefers - UP/SP orange

8) K-line 21 inch Union Pacific cars

9) K-line 21 inch Milwaukee cars

10) I also look for older TMCC engines on the cheap. They are great runners, in spite of their failing smoke units, are pretty robust.

11) Of course I will be looking to say hello to all that make this hobby fun too.

Bunch of parts mostly, mechanisms I can modify to build unique std gauge things (2046/2055 mechanisms that I'll widen for example), possibly an impulse buy of something in the Modern Std gauge era - Daniels GG1 for example. Maybe an MTH 400 if it's cheap - looking to put a 6 wheel drive underneath to replace the 4 wheel - make it a real Hudson. Possibly some G mechanisms, who knows?

But mostly to enjoy time with my train friends old and new. And plan for the modular STD gauge layout at the National Convention in Pittsburgh this summer.

I'm going to see if I can find 2 postwar, link coupler, AF heavyweight passenger cars in excl. condition. I know they will not be cheap. I seem to remember AF dealers in the White Hall, but I suppose they are in others...yes?

I think there are AF sellers in Red most meets as well.

I seem to recall a few long tables on the outer aisles at the least, probably also a few scattered throughout the rest of the hall as well.

I can't say if the type of products they normally have for sale are of a similar vintage of the details you describe (HW passenger, link couplers), but there is definitely some Flyer.

Thanks. Some of the large AF tables have "museum quality" stuff at prices that reflect such. I'm always amazed at how much nice vintage AF can be found at shows. But for those prices, I want a hands-on look-see before buying.

Many of the AF dealers are in the fire station.

Looking for Ameri-Towne small back yard garage buildings. Stop at the OGR booth for this

Working on a new residential area and a few of the house owners need a garage in their backyard.

Also looking for a single stall garage door for a MTH building that I am going to turn into a small town single truck fire hall.

Some small MTH parts at the MTH parts booth.

Picking up a coal loading facility at Crescent Locomotive Works Booth.

Other than these few  items, I am looking for a nice day spent with my wife and looking trains and all the great things this hobby has to offer, can't wait till Friday !!!!!!!!

All for special projects: junker 3520/3620 cars/parts; MPC hopper cars with metal plates where truck attaches; 3370 type cars(3370pw, clowns, Yosemite sam); cheap radioactive cars/cannisters; long bed gondolas or long depressed flats; and metal trucks with fast angle wheels and with pickup rollers(not pw).

NP GP-9 with legacy; rainbow cylindrical hoppers; and alien cars.

So far the rain has been a hindrance to my efforts.  Tuesday doesn't look much better.

However, being at a rainy train show is still better than a good day golfing or fishing, IMHO.

As much fun as it is to hear my mom groan every time I go, "Oh, look at that! I want it!", I think that my biggest regret of my last show was not meeting enough people. So, I plan to take it slow, and meet lots of the faces from this Wonderful forum. Mr. Melvin, I'm coming for you!

Oh, and Also I stoked to see the new Mikes catalog, and Mike! He and I are friends (Long story, involves Pokemon Go)

Right now I think I prefer rain to temps in the 80's Thursday and Friday.  That's too hot, too fast for this fella.  Not looking forward to walking 5 miles a day in that heat this early in the year.  Gonna need a sweatband and tropical hat.

Hey Greg I'm with you. Looks like I'll be hanging out in the Orange hall allot. Hope to see you there.

Joe, don't forget to check out the reliance fire hall.  It's about 2 blocks from the fairgrounds and was almost totally AF.   Went there today for first time.  Some AF in the white hall, more in the red hall.
