I wasn’t sure how to word this, but due to my new PA-1 looking ridiculous negotiating O36 curves, I’m adding an O54 “mainline” reverse loop outside of an existing O36 reverse loop.

I have ordered a pair of O72’s that haven’t arrived yet, and I’m unsure of the angle of the divergent route.  There’s some wiggle room with the spacing between the parallel tracks, therefore some wiggle room for the degree of crossover.  I’m using tubular track.  Is the standard 45 degree Lionel crossover correct, or do I need to source a less common angle by Atlas or possibly a Fastrack piece?

Please see expertly drafted picture.

Thanks Jan!  It appears 22.5 degrees is the appropriate angle...is Atlas, or even k-line’s O tubular track crossover an option?  I’ve seen both on eBay, and haven’t heard many good things about fastrack quality.

I think the negative comments about Fastrack are more than a bit overdone.  Fastrack is fine, the biggest complaint I have is it's noisy with the echo chamber plastic base.   You could just adapt a Fastrack 22.5 degree crossover to your tubular track if that floats your boat.  Carefully remove the rails and take the pins out, put the rails back on the plastic base and use standard O-gauge tubular pins.

Not sure if this is applicable, but when I added an eye level nostalgic 15' X 40'  3 rail point to point mainline to my 2 rail scale RR,  I used wide 0144"  3 rail curves, however due to inadequate space I still needed 036 and 042 sections for the two return loops.

You mention a lack of affection for small curves,  on my 3 rail RR, 180 degrees of the tight return loops will be enclosed inside of mountains.   No visible tight curves.
