A little tear down work. This was layout # 7 but I didn't finish it. The layout just wasn't doing it for me so I will be starting from scratch after I get this mess cleaned up LOL. New bench work and new design I'm 56 and tired of climbing on the table to work. Version 8 will be more thought out for reach limitations. You may notice the walls are large mirrors as this was a weight room in my younger days. I have had 2 & 1/2 layouts in this area and always tried to block the mirrors with scenery. Rip them out or embrace them suggestions welcome.

With all due respect, "rip them out", start over 100% fresh.

Just as your last name says.....rip em out!

Dave, I agree, that scene is definitely worth saving!  My comment to get a new start was in reference to the mirrors only.  If it works to add a mirror in scenery to give more depth, then it works.  Just the way you worded it makes me think you weren't that happy with trying to work the scenery to take advantage of existing mirrors.

You read it right Mark, it's a pain designing the layout around the mirrors so I agree thieve got to go. Right now I'm cleaning ballast off the track I'm trying to salvage all the switches and O72 curves I've got tons of extra straight track.

Great layout I really like the train wash area.

Al created that as well

Hey Y'all,

This took 72 hours including sleep, ham radio, and food.  I wanted to add a switch to my control panel.  I broke the Lexan.  I have a 3'x5' piece in the garage but it is reserved for a higher purpose.  After consulting with the CFO, a tired cookie pan seemed ideal.  I installed two circuit breakers (track power and switch power), five siding power switches, a kill switch for #1122 switches, and an old switch I've had since the seventies but never used.  The old switch is not connected to anything yet.  Graphics will be modest.  It all worked first time when tested !!!

CGWFOREVER, Looks good. John is a top notch guy! He spent hours helping me out, cause I didn't understand some of his product. When he got done with me everything ran smooth as silk!

Dave, sorry to see it go. But you have to do what it takes to make you happy! I bet you will get it all figured out and there wont be a #9!

FL9TURBO2, I bet that is going to look just AMAZING on your layout! I cant wait to see the finished product!

Mark, I am glad you found some time for the train room today! Its funny how a little will hold a person over for a few days! LOL

Bill way to improvise! My wife would kill me if I did that to her cookie sheet! But I have to hand it to you it turned out looking good!

So Just like mark I found some time in the train room today also. First thing was to take care of what Tom Tee calls weathering (Cleaned Room). Second was to build a foundation for one of my buildings that sat to low for the train to go under the over hang. But the last hour or so was the best, I sat in my chair with a cold silver bullet and just ran trains! Round and Round, I blocked out the whole world!

I do have a question if anyone might be able to help me out, Does anyone know the length of a Ross 072 "Y"? Also maybe the distance from center rail to center rail? I want to get a head of the game and get some cork laid and get my lift section cut out as I am already tired of crawling under it! LOL

Well Tomorrow is Monday Start of the work week But that's ok, its all part of life. I sure hope you all have a great day and Please Have FUN!

I made this video for a post I started when I was having difficulty with the new Lionel 86' Boxcars.  After oiling the kinematic plate and glide, the scraping metal parts wore down the sharp stamping edges and are running smoothly now.  I can now run nineteen 86' boxcars at Speed Step "125".  I can even crawl eight cars backwards at speed step "3 to 5".  I am very happy with the new 86' boxcars after the run-in period.

The video shows my basement "Valley of Bridges" layout dual mainline and the incomplete upper reversing loop.  I might talk myself into finishing the layout after some modifications.

Last night and tonight I have been taking the kinematic plate off the cars and wiping the excess oil from the assemblies.  I am also taking photos incase I want to list some of these cars.  My medium size layout cannot handle all of my cars.

Sincerely, John Rowlen

In other train news,  I've taken delivery of a slightly distressed Alco 420.  Got the horn repaired,  so now all that's needed is some fresh traction tires!

Look forward to this sporting Arkansas and Missouri livery later this year!

I was browsing the A&M roster this evening and found this interesting little tidbit:

506/6384721Ex-ET 106 < nee L&HR 22

So, my Lionel's prototype actually LIVES on the Arkansas and Missouri's roster nowadays...

How's THAT for an interesting coinkydink?

I was going to say you needed a train for the bar but you gotta get rid of the train eating shark first.

Your baseball diamond makes me want to trade my Legacy for my old rotten smelly ball glove. What a wonderful job!  "Get your I've cold Wiedemann right here"

And the R End, well, my mother forbid me from entering that side of town. Reminds me of "Mothers" in  "Peter Gunn", only Pete was in black and white☺.

Not to worry. The glove goes back in the drawer in September and the Legacy control comes back into the light...

John, nice video of the 86' cars.

Johan, the car looks good.

Ed, I like the way you did the road.

Mark, good to hear you got a little layout time.

Everyone is posting great stuff. I still have not found the time. Outdoor work is kicking me. But today I got a nice package from the "B". A couple  more Weaver undecorated trailers. Been figuring to paint them and use them behind the cabs I have been buying from Diecast direct. I haven't tried yet to see if the trailers will work with those cabs. Pics............Paul 2

Johan, What a wonderful Boxcar! I have never seen one like that. Very Impressive!

Paul, The trailers look nice, You know I am thinking that by the time you get back to the train room you are going to have so much train stuff you wont know where to start! LOL I wish I had that problem!

Well folks I did get a little train room time today. The new foam ramps I made earlier last week melted when I painted them. So today I made new ones out of cut down 2x4's, lets see them melt! LOL Its slow as it goes at my place, but I tell you a day here and a day there in the train room beats anything else!

Well tomorrow is the big Tuesday, I hope you all have a great day and by all means please have some FUN!
