Matt, I can't remember the last time we got over 30" of snow! I could have made money with my tractor, but being stuck at the store and dealing with the flu I missed out! LOL

Mike - to be 18 again, with a nice new pickup with a plow. When I was 18, a new aluminum shovel was a big deal. LOL!  Stay safe & hope you’re feeling better.

Amen to that, Matt!  Yes, our shovels were pretty sad!  I didn't get my rusted out Ford Galaxy until I was almost 20.

Bob that trim is looking good!  So is the plaster work!   Have you ever worked with foam?

Dave is making this stuff look easy!  I'm planning on trying some stuff soon too!

Sean's Trains showed some Woodland Scenic or Scenic Express stuff that looks like aluminum foil but thicker.  He used it on his layout.   Pretty cool stuff...

Still raining here............... And no cows................ LOL

Jim

Jim- yes to the foam. Both the cliff and the hill over the tunnel are carved from blue foam. Since this is a narrow area, I though that the plaster sheet would be simpler to work with. Gives me a excuse to try new scenic methods too. All part of the learning process.

The WS stuff you are referring to is probably shaper sheet.

Jim, your coming along nicely.

Bob, edges are turning out good.

CSX Al, the mill, pond and the equipment you have done are going to make for one great looking scene.

LUVINDEMTRAINS, awesome scenery.

Chris a, thanks. I was like you. In all my years I never did water. Now this is my third time.......time to get your feet wet LOL.

Today I thought it was going to be a good day but it turned out not quite. I had two containers of spackling and one container of DAP. Unfortunately the first two had dried rock hard and the DAP was sort of a different color but workable. I had to kind of add water to make it a bit more pliable. Before I started I added a couple of small pieces of foam to the back waterfall to break up the flatness across the front. But I didn't have quite enough to finish the riverbed. I have to make a Menards run to get some more. Pics.......Paul

I did not paint people for a couple of days.  I have been making adjustments around the house to help Mom move more easily.

I did place a pre-order for Mr. Muffins Special Run Nickle Plate Road GP35 #910 last night.  If anyone else is looking to order this engine, please do.  I plan to run it with my NKP GP9 #482.  Mr. Muffins needs a few more pre-orders to make the engine.  The GP 35 #910 was the only GP35 on the NKP.

The detailing of layouts just keeps getting better.  The finished projects should be amazing based on the in-progress photos.  I need to finish my Preiser people so I can finish the second level of my Valley of Bridges Layout.  I am inspired.

Sincerely, John Rowlen

I got to Menards and I was just going to get a small container of DAP but as I was going to the back of the store I came across a deal I could not refuse. On the end of the aisle they had a rebate for those long grippers. 8.99 and a 8.00 rebate so I got two. The wife can use them. And then I decided to pick up a couple of tubes of clear silicone to make some waterfalls. I may be done for the night because everything has to dry. But I may get some more wax paper and make some more waterfalls. Pics............Paul

I grew up in Baldwin and used to go to a guy on Merrick Rd in Freeport, wasn't Nassau, don't remember the name but most of my paper route money went there. Been going to Trainland since I was little with my Dad too.

Bob;

Catching up after two days away... my great uncle lived in Baldwin from the 30’s to the 80’s... did you ever deliver papers in Loft Estates (at least that’s what I think the area was called)??? Spent a couple of weeks in the 80’s going there to clean out his house after he passed - wish I knew there were so many interesting train stores in the area!!!

Didn't deliver there but I caught a lot of fish in Loft's pond.

Small world!

My Layout Updates

Dave, were you a geologist in a past life? Those mountains look wonderful!

Pete

Pete,

Who knows, but that might explain why I was always drawn to history/geography class when others were trying to skip, lol.

Thanks,

Dave

Track plan tweaks, that's what.

Upon examination I decided to move the runaround track leftward to a much more natural position immediately beside the mainline thus creating a proper passing siding appearance. Of course I had to move the paint factory and shorten what had been the runaround into a stub spur. A more railroad-like trackplan with no loss of operation potential. I like it.

Lew

Very nice Lew I like it

I ran my choo choos tonight!  Was feeling a bit blah but that helped!   I have developed a plan for my farm house and barn.  Looks like I may have to build my first tunnel and hill!!!   : )    Ran my 1401 Southern engine with my tablet.    System worked good.   Stuff is all dirty from the expansion.   Couldn't believe how dirty everything was!!

Next I need to close off the rest of the new wall and plug the holes I had to cut in the ceiling to access wiring.  I'm not 100% satisfied with how it worked out but I reckon it will do.  Now to do some research!

700 pages.     WOW.

Jim

Paul, I wish my mountain looked half as good as yours.

In the meantime, I had another 'dang it!'  Trying to create a footer for my Seven Macs building, the spray paint peeled the top layer of the foam board.  Not sure I can glue it back down or look for another material to use.  Did manage to get some positive results with lighting so there's that.

Paul 2, Looks wonderful! I cat wait to see the water on the falls! Do you pre paint any of the white on the bottom of the falls before you put it up?

Dave, looks great! At this pace you are going to run out of thing to do! Plus its making me feel lazy! LOL

Jim, I am glad you took time out to run some trains, it was starting to sound like you were getting a little down. Be careful on the ladder fixing the holes! There getting closer! MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Bob, its all good! Now your ready for the real thing on the layout! Just not so thin! LOL

Brian, great pictures! I also have that crane and need to make some tracks for it, I don't think MTH Makes any! I hope your all doing well!

Mike g, I will be painting the river bottoms. I just got a couple of colors from Scenic Express for that. I am thinking of using black for the back of the waterfalls. When I go down to the basement shortly I'll see if the waterfalls came out using silicone caulk. This was a first try for me. Hesitate that I might  have not made it thick enough to be able to separate it from the wax paper. I will know shortly.......Paul

Brian, Yes the crane looks neat.  I have one that needs some work, but it will sit until the layout is well on it's way.  Maybe when I retire.

Bob, Good advice, and the front fascia and fill is looking great!  If you make it too pretty, you won't want to take any off to expand!

I did a little bit of work putting in the little brackets that hold the table top to the Mianne.  I had been on hold for a while as I contemplated different ideas of how I wanted to extend my table top to support the turnback loops.  I'll go into that in more detail later when I have some photographs to go with it.  Nothing earth shattering for sure!!  I have been a bit slow getting over this flu/virus/whatever.  I put off visiting my aunt and parents at their personal care homes this week.  I didn't want to carry something in those places.

I do not know if I will be going back to work at the company I have worked at for the past 22 years.  They just aren't coming up with budget money to do projects they said they needed me for.  So I have put some more time in this week looking for something else.  A lot of the jobs that are similar to part of my 43 years experience require lifting and/or crawling under things.  Well, I can't do that on demand anymore with my sciatic nerve and bad knee.  Maybe 42 years is why I can't now.    So, time will tell if I find something or just decide to sign up for Social Security and maybe pick up some odd work here and there.  Odd work!!  That is exactly what an odd guy is qualified for!

Anyway, I am planning on doing a little more on getting that table top fastened down.  Keep it up everyone!!!

Brian, Thanks for the Missabe fix!    Double Cheers, Dave

Missabe is always good.  They took the ore to the lake, put it on a ship, dump it off at Conneaut, Ohio onto Bessemer & Lake Erie trains.  I do see a lot more CN engines heading up those Bessemer trains running through Butler these days however.
