What did you NOT find at York?

Was there Thursday and Friday. Couldn't find much of anything. Came with $2k in my pocket. Looking for some specific boxed postwar cars or deeply discounted MTH PS2 engines. Nothing struck my fancy. Spent $80 on some original sheets of Lionel wrapping paper and took the balance of my money home to eBay.

I "found" a Lionel scale PRR flatcar with lumber load on Friday but didn't buy it. Been kicking myself so now I have to go "find it" on the internet! 

The only item that I didn't see that I was interested in was mth flatcars with the subway cars on top.  Have a few but was interested in added to the roster.  Other than that found pretty much everything else I was looking for.

Didn't find the elusive Weaver 4 bay high side Union Pacific hoppers prod#U4902.  I think I have the only two in existence 

Did not find any MTH or Weaver Grand Trunk Western passenger cars.  Saw very few Weaver passenger cars, period.

Still did not find the two 3rd Rail engines I've been looking for these past few years:  PRR Q1 and PRR H6b.

Got back to my Chevy to leave, and was sad it had not morphed into a Bentley.

I didn't find any sharecroppers in the aisles this york...(not that I was looking for them) clean air abound for once..

Zero Weaver TOFCs at the Fairgrounds. Did find one at the Wyndham though.

Respect for the National Anthem at Thursday's opening (Orange Hall).   Been like this for the many years that I've started there.

Yes. 

I found what I wanted but I didn't buy it quick enough and lost out!  I was going to purchase the DC to AC conversion diesel from Mr. Muffins as he had a great deal on them.  However; there were a couple of other items I was trying to find as well.   By the time I decided to make the purchase he sold them all.   Ugh. 

No chance l'll lose "a large sum of money" at York.  Been a while, since the tent behind the Billy Budd days, that l bothered to take much. I would have only needed much at the Wyndham for a Marx engine that was unpriced.  "If you have to ask, you can't afford it".  Not so, but ...  I later saw it sell. I was looking, oddly, for an inexpensive Lionel RDC car, powered, and saw many, way above Bay pricing, but for once l'd done homework and discovered they HAD been made in a western roadname, so decided to hold out for one of those, not seen there, at least inexpensively.  So again came away with little, and little spent, and that in the open shows. 

I was looking for Golden Gate Depot N&W cars - especially the Powhatan Arrow set or add on cars.

At 12:15pm on Thursday I found a GGD scale N&W RPO in red hall for $50 and was delighted. 

I chatted with the fella running the table and much to may dismay he had the Powhatan Arrow set with him but had sold it in a parking lot bandit meet earlier in the week. Skunked again! 

What I didn't find:

Still couldn't find MTH Premier NP 5-car passenger set (20-65238) from 2014.  My North Coast Limited will remain dome-less for a little while longer......

Details please.  In recent years as most people no longer look at trains as investments, I've found people to be more friendly, and as York has become less busy, people have more time to talk.  And if being able to see just about any train imaginable isn't enough to return, then all I do is shake my head.

Had the opposite experience. 

I didn't see "any train imaginable" ...l don't need to imagine  them, their prototypes existed, and some of their models were offered circa 1933, per Keith Will's book, but not in three rail, since.

Weaver 20" N&W Combine car.... hen's teeth

Missed the $50 Atlas Natty Boh car that Putnam Division pointed out by maybe 5 seconds...... someone got an unbelievable deal. 

I was looking for a replacement motor for a PS2 steam engine at he MTH parts department booth along with some steam engine tethers. they had neither one.

Other than that I got everything else that was on my wish list including 2 garages at the OGR booth.

I also noticed to that the people attending the show and the vendors seem to be in good moods.

In the past you get the reaction like your bothering me go away !!!!!!!!!!

My wife and I had a great time !!!!!!!!

A 6-51301 Lackawana semi-scale phenolic reefer. Found 2, but were only being sold as part of a complete set.

A 6-19011 madison reissue baggage car.  Didn't even see one as part of a set.

A Williams replacement gearbox for a friend's GS-4.

A chance to meet GRJ at Hennings. Each time I stopped by, he was swarmed.

Anyone noticing that I had "OGR Forum" on my badge.  Well, OK, the folks at the OGR booth kinda looked at it but didn't say anything.  And yes, Rich, I bought 2 building kits and a book.

Welcoming people, directions - no where did I see any signs directing the "public" where to go to get into the building.  I waited in line for 30 minutes only to find I was in the wrong location.  The "lady" (and I will use that term loosely) told me where to go.  So I wandered over to the correct building and had to wander until I encountered another "lady" who could not be bothered to tell me where one paid your admission.  Finally paid my fee and was granted entry.  Now what I would have encouraged the staff and officers of the TCA to do would have been to seek out green wrist bands and engage them in conversation.  There was a booth in the lobby of the main building but the ticket seller did not direct the buyer to that booth or tell them what that was about.  I spent 10 minutes there testing the waters to see if someone would or could speak.  Now I ran a member based organization for several years, engagement was drummed into all of the staff and volunteers because new members and member retention was key.  

Now the vendors for the most part were happy to engage except for the one who had music playing in his booth and could not hear what was being said and acted like he could not be bothered responding to any questions.  

Anyway there was nothing in the Orange hall that i could not have found at a LHS or A local show so I won't be back.

Didn't find any attendees moaning about high prices and shipping schedules.

Lots of happy faces and some glazed over looks as folks were on the hunt.

Room in my car on the way home! Loaded with impulse buys. Would have liked to pick up a std. GG1 of one type or another.

I looked for a fixer upper  - standard gauge set... saw some MTH/Lionel repops at a great buy, however, I was looking for Lionel, American Flyer, or Ives originals... The silver hall had plenty but the prices where WHOA!  So my colleague and I walked and got an education from the sellers.

It was like going to the dealer to get your car repaired....

PRR Legacy M1b

21 inch K line UP passenger cars

But I did find a new VL Big Boy, GS-4, and PRR Legacy E7's in Brunswick green with 5 stripes. Lots of new rolling stock, and ordered a Santa Fe Hybrid brass engine.

I didn't find,

21 inch polished K-Line PRR Congressional set.  The hunt goes on....

I missed seeing Jeff @ The Train Tender this spring. Other empty tables too. 

I believe that jeff didn't go because he couldn't get a helper.
