What is York?

3 years ago I broke my left wrist on March 30th. I drove to York and back two weeks after with a fiberglass cast from my elbow to my fingers with my daughter & grandson. We also took in a Yankee Baltimore game. No way will I miss York.

Ben and I started to go to York in 2004 when we joined the Hirailers. The first time I went was in Oct. It was my wife's birthday. I'm still paying for that one. And we will be there in Oct.

I haven't read thru peoples' answers in this thread, but my answer to the question, the same one that I myself remember asking years ago here on this forum, has always been this:

York is where you go to find stuff that you didn't know that you needed!

This year I'll be going Thursday-Friday for the first time. Might need some info on Thu@Fridays, see if I can convince my entourage to try Fridays instead of Old Country Buffet.

I was confident you would find it, Brian!  The next step is for you to join the TCA so you can participate in the fun.  I realize it's a l-o-n-g trip for you, but you should try to make the meet at some point if you possibly can.  I think you would find it "as described" here.

No kiddin'..........I just go to York for the walking. Oh yeah, I've seen some trains there..........................Now where are the ubiquitous projected October weather reports?????????????   Chili today/hot tamale in the 70's?

Miss York! Are you kidding, this will be my 56th straight York. About 6 years ago I broke 3 bones in my left foot but still made it to York. Heck you only need your right foot to drive. 

Btw when you do attend York and every time you use the rest rooms please leave a silent offering, the same you do at church.

Well this will be my 84th consecutive York meet and have enjoyed all of them. Have been the photographer for what I call "The New & Strange Seen at York," but the editors have chosen other words, since April 1989.

Photography in the halls has been a very touchy subject with the Eastern Division Board of Directors for some 30+ years. I've tried for years suggesting that they make some minor adjustments to the total ban that has imposed but it never got off the ground. Remember only Eastern Division TCA members can make their BOD change the rules. Someday maybe?

It's always interesting to see what shows up in the photos you have taken, Ron, and thanks for at least trying to convince the powers-that-be to consider relaxing their long-outdated and unnecessary ban on photography in the halls.

I know the ban doesn't really harm the Eastern Div. or the meet in general, but it sure doesn't do much to help "spread the word" about one of the key benefits to TCA membership.

Considering today's pen cameras and eye glass cameras, I am very suprised that photos and/or videos would not be plastered all over the place.  Even the basic bulky camera in an otherwise empty freight car box.

A good overall shot of each hall would better convey the enormity of the venue.  Even with the diminished attendance, this thing is big X big. 

Well, it's easy enough to take photos, of course, but if they find out who took them (or perhaps even published them), that individual is banned from future meets.

You can't make your own rules.  The rules are set by the sponsoring organization, and it's your obligation to follow them if you want to participate.

I may just take a GPS-GLONASS equipped eTrex along this meet & finally document the table footage statistics. Given the state of the DJIA I figure that might be the most interesting thing to do at Y10/12..

Allen, you are exactly right, but that was not my point.  My focus (not stating right or wrong) simply was that I am just suprised that there are no table photos anywhere.

I do believe that an array of official overall photos would be a good TCA promo effort.  Unless there is no desire to promote the event.

Personally I do not like it when I am at well attended trade shows, some photo jocky is trying to herd folks away from their field of view.  I can understand the TCA desire to eliminate that based on the overwhelming crowds of yesteryear.  But that was then, this is now.

The days of hoards of people crowding all the aisles are over.   There are times when one could bowl in the aisles at some train shows today.
