look around.

- Google search just turned 20 last September.
- eBay is slightly older.
- point & shoot cameras may be a little over 10 years old, but i didn't get a DSLR until ~5 years ago.

today i was pondering how i could have put this picture together 25 years ago.

- i might travel to York to find these cars... maybe over a few years?

- after my assured success, i could load up my SLR with Fuji Superia, set up the lighting, ...getting everything right the first time, of course... punctuated by trips to the local photo store, waiting a few days between sessions for the latest developments.

- after ordering enlargements, it's time to break out the scissors and glue!

but then there is this...

it really looks like this...

- hire an artist?
- some photo shop (NOT PhotoShop)  manipulation?
- can Xerox machines resize one dimension?

 - sit around hoping someday technology might catch up?
...oh, wait.

and in another few years, it will take even less time to create an image like this one. But your camera, pacemaker, hearing aid and driveways lights will all be on one device you can't go anywhere without. So much so that future generations will have to develop a permanently mounted kangaroo pouch on their hip so they don't forget their cellphone.

1st century? I don't think they had very many trains from the 0 to 99 AD.

I don't think model trains came along until the 19th century.

I agree.  They were probably more concerned with Maslow's first level of food,  shelter, clothing, etc.  In the USA we tend to live at the third or fourth levels.  Things like the brand name of clothes,  cars, # hits on my youtube channel, Facebook, and of course things like # of rivets, boiler plate location, correct sound chip, feedwater tube location.

Oh, I forgot to mention "operate" versus "drive".
