The Weaver GP38-2 takes the standard Kadee #805 draftgear box. But.... if you fit snowplows you will most likely need the new long-shank coupler, #746 I think. (It uses the same box.)

She wont have snowplows, NS's GP38's didnt have them for the most part. Make it very hard to get in to couple air hoses! When we would get a GP50 high hood at the Ft Wayne GM plant, we would run in to New Haven yard and swap it for a GP38-2 as soon as we could. The GP50's have those big plows and your shoulder would find the top of it when you leaned up from coupling the air line up. I will pickup those Kaydee's next time I am at the shop in Indy. I put a standard Kadee on my GP-35s. But I did not use a box, I just used the coupler non-centering.
I filed off the bottom nub used for centering and then I filled the slot in the shank with a piece of styrene. I seem to remember 1/8 x 1/8 worked. then I fitted the coupler into the exisiting draft gear box on the loco and marked the styrene where I wanted to drill a hole. I drilled a small hole in the styrene and used an appropriate screw to hold it in the box.
I may have had to file the top and bottom of the shank a little too.
I don't like carving up the nice brass pilots and draft gear to fit in Kadee boxes on older models.
