Cue the recording of "ONE MORE TRAIN" from the TM video series!
I have two elevated train stations but do not have the room to install stairs to get to them. No one has ever asked me how the people got up there. If ever asked I have the perfect answer because I do have a helicopter hovering up above.
Only the stone viaduct over the small creek needs to be built. Next train seasons work!
The Layout itself!

two words.
Rope ladder!
I have a similar problem, the station is on the upper level, I will cut some MTH stairway/walkway overpass ladders. I think they will work.I
My whole layout.
about 10 feet of basement.......
Laying about 1/3 of the track and all of the wiring...
More table top area.
I agree: More space to put the stuff I have stored underneath.
Space, space and Space. Homes in California seldom have basements so it limits the size of the layout, and or where you can build one.
Don't know. That's why I attend Toy Train Shows.
Great answer. You never know what you may need until you spot it. The hunting at train meets is part of the fun.

Suspension of disbelief is sometimes a necessary part of our layouts. (Myself, I have a dead-ended "tunnel" for cars to drive up and down to and from their mountaintop settlement.)
Any Harry Potter/Hogwarts O scale building...
I second that lol
Art Keep up the searching I am sure if you get enough interest one of the companies will build the cars.
The Layout itself!
Yep, there 'tis. I'm just getting started on mine, but so far it's a stack of 2" x 4"s and boxes of stuff.
A steam engine service facility. Complete with roundhouse, turntable, ash pit, coal water and sand towers, assorted buildings and sheds and room to put it.

+1!
Add to that just about everything else-layout, a few buildings...the list goes on.
Someday....
Well I'm currently layoutless too as I try to wire my new one. If it were finished, the one item it would be missing shouldn't be on it anyway; a PRR Q1. My layout era is 1949, but the Q1 was retired in 1946. I just want one because they are so unique and really neat, so I'll have to come up with a reason for it running. Actually, this might be a better post for the "Where on your layout do you have to pretend" topic

It's easier to imagine that it's retirement was delayed 3 years than to imagine an engine that didn't exist until after your time period. Go for it. Who deserves it more than you do?
The layout just moved and lost my 14 x 16 room to a 8 x 12 and right now it is full of stuff from the move
The layout! When I left for college all the trains went in boxes. Now I've been out for 3 years and the best I can do is an oval on the living room floor of my apartment. May be moving back home this fall so hopefully I can convince my parents to give me back a little space in the basement again!
I really wanted to have a turntable on my layout, but I ran out of space.
MTH UP baggage car, the one with flag on the side, and NS business 2 car add ons, Pennsylvania and Alabama cars.
...and the hunt goes on...
A few more come to mind.
Art
A 1:48 scale model of the Milwaukee Road depot in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin - and the space to put it (the real one is quite large).
One thing? More room!! Like all modelers "if only I had just one more inch I could squeeze in that curve/building/tunnel etc."
ME.
A method for getting coal into the tenders:
I don't have room for a big coal chute. Maybe I can find a decent small coal chute instead of the conveyor.
One thing that's missing from my layout that I DON'T miss is wiring. I have no wires at all going to the layout since going to battery-power, remote-control. Turntable is hand-operated as well as the ground throws for all turnouts.
I will eventually wire up the buildings, but I may use rechargeable batteries with a charging port and on/off switch powering LEDs in each building.
Bob,
Take a look at the top left item in the link below. Suncoast makes an O-scale kit of a Fairbanks-Morse tower that is really compact and inexpensive ($38 plus shipping). I've seen these built up and they are really nice.

There's no one thing. It's a laundry list starting with the layout itself (though I'm building that).
An O-27 tinplate McKeen car that can handle 27" curves!
Thanks for the link Bob B.
Lots is missing!
Two would finish the "bucket list".
A red War Bonnet carbody E, A-B-A (at least 1 "B", 2-"A"s).
A ZW. Since I was a young man, my pockets always seemed to be empty when one I wanted showed up "cheap enough". Prices in the past didn't help.
I like my 1033's, KW's, AF-18b, and even the pre-war Z, but they just aren't a ZW .

I would like to built a Fifth Main Line, American Flyer
When I was a kid, I shared an American Flyer Layout, with two older brothers.
This line may have to be around the train room, about two feet below the ceiling.
These trains were purchased at Hudson's Dept. Store, and The Train Clinic, both in Detroit.
