In order: 1-My little, non-scale, plastic Southern Crescent locomotive (part of a set) that I got when I was 5.  2- the new Railking Scale RS-1 NYC I just got because it reminds me of my dad, who just passed, who had built one in HO from a kit in the late 1950s and gave it to me when, but it somehow disappeared In the abyss known as my mom's house. 3- speaking from the little kid in me that loves gadgets, of all my locomotives, I prefer the VL Challenger, despite owning many other steamears and diesels, including every VL steamer (except the ATSF 2-20-10-2, which I don't want). The most steam effects of any loco ever produced I believe, all those drive wheels, and those blessed elephant ears!

For me being a relative newbie, I'd have to say my VL Big Boy. It's also the sure-fire hit with guests. My Ma-in-law absolutely croons when she sees and hears it, since she knew them for real in her younger years.

That being said, my "daily" favorite is probably the little Lionel Legacy GP-35 in GM&O livery. Got it for a song, and it's got the best "quillable" horn I've played with yet. It's so fun to try and emulate the real UP trains that come through our small town of Buda. As  I type this to you, one is coming through town right now. Pure magic.

well I don't have just one (big surprise...)

this Marx was bought for my Dad during WWll for $1 at GC Murphy, he passed it on t his little brother, and I inherited when he passed away this year.

This 675 was the first engine I bought for myself.

My RK PRR M1a was purchased from a forum member, and except for routine maintenance, hasn't left the trainboard for 10+ years.

225E was one of my first junkbox rebuilds, with my home made tender.pretty much have stories for all of them.

I enjoy all my engines.  However, there are a few that just perform better and look better than the others that could be called my favorite.  When you add sentimental value to the equation, one engine is my favorite, and it is not a Pennsy engine.  It is the Lionel scale Southern Railway Mikado from the early 90s.  It was given to me by my wife as a retirement present (USAF), and I had Alex M upgrade it with ERR.  Looks, runs and sounds great.  And my wife likes seeing it run which works out well later that night.

That's a hard question my favorite engine , my favorite to run engine, my favorite display engine ect. any way my Favorite engine would have to be my 2359 B&M GP-7/9 now it's not the original but it is to me the first one given to me as a child ( the actual one got sold so bought this as a replacement) infact I have replaced the complete set better than I ever remember it as my father got it from a friend and it was missing pieces form each car but now I have the complete set with all the correct pieces and parts. set # 2572 only thing missing is set box and I would bet it's out of my price range.

K, the last one I'd get rid of is My MTH GN R2 - the first steam engine I ever bought, but for looks, it have to be my NP Challenger, the most run is the MTH Caterpillar Ready to run set with my twin daughters, but the one closest to my heart is a MTH Railking UP Turbine.  I bought for my dad about 20 years ago that got us started into this hobby.  As my Mom passed away just 6 weeks ago and my dad has been diagnosed with dementia, some of the shared memories of trains are now mine alone. I've been blessed to have them.

My favorite is a Lionel 318E that was my grandfathers and Dads before me.  Most collectors wouldnt touch it cause of the dented cabin.  My great grandmother accidentally dropped it 2 days before Christmas, broke the wheels and dented it, panicked and rode the bus downtown to the trainman to get it repaired.  Still runs like a champ!!  Someday I hope to pass it on to my grandson!!
