There is a set of AA diesels in a road name I want, The Williams set is NIB, the MTH set is LNIB, no run time showing on the wheels, and they are $10 apart in price. The MTH is Proto 1, but that is not a concern at all for me. Williams or MTH in your opine?

It would matter to me which sound card the Williams had. Not sure but I think the cards before True Blast Plus did not have prime mover sounds. That said I have a couple of Williams and they are very nice.
You did not identify what the Williams AA's were. If they are F7's then they could be the really early ones. Prior to 1984 they go only one direction. '84 forward they have electronic reverse and traction tires. If they are 90's forward, a better comparison to MTH. Are the MTH 20- or 30-? A little more info could be helpful.
Yes, should have been a bit more clear, the Williams are F7's, think the model is F7111, one powered with digital horn and electronic reversing board, plus a dummy A. The MTH is a 30-2007 model, one powered, one dummy.
MTH

That would get my vote as well.
Beware that the Wms F7s can appear rather 'odd-looking' as the angles on the nose are somewhat off from what we are used to seeing. They may not have flywheels. They are very old Kusan molds while the Wms F3's are virtual clones of Lionel's PW F3s. MTH Railking Scale F3's are also Lionel clones. Your decision.
Williams made powering kits for dummy locos years ago. If you eventually want to run with four motors instead of two, it might be something to consider.
The MTH locos are semi-scale. They have good contours but are very short. The Williams are scale models, but the detail is lacking and contours are not quite right. I have some of the MTH, both Premier and the semi-scale models and they are all very nice. You can get parts for them. I have one Williams F7B only and it is okay. I didn't get the A's because I don't like the way they look. If you don't care if they are scale size or not, then I would choose the MTH.

Yes - the Wms "F7" is not properly contoured in the nose.
Their F3's look very nice - and, like their Alco FA's, the F3's couple nice and closely, generally better than either Lionel or MTH equivalents.
Thanks for all the input. In my quest to keep all things RR's of the South, have to make compromises on proportions some times, but that is OK for my RR world. I do splurge though, and use non-South power because the loco is cool looking and just consider it rented, borrowed, or a railfan trip when the UP is on a siding with the Central of Georgia.
