I have Robert Church's great book, Those Daylight 4-8-4's: The Story of Southern Pacific GS class Locomotives. He goes into great detail about the SP GS class locomotives but some of their service history is lacking. Can anyone recommend another book that details the services history of the GS class locomotives? Specifically what I'm looking for is when the single headlamp GS2, GS3, and GS6 classes started to be used regularly on freight trains and where they were used in such service. I know the GS4 & GS5 classes were still assigned to passenger service in the early to mid 50s (besides being used on the Overnight express freight trains well, overnight). By the 1950s it seems there weren't many photos of the GS2, GS3, or GS6 in passenger service, whether it was Daylight or Commute trains. In the Church book there really aren't any photos of the GS2 & GS3 past the mid 40s. Any place I can find information about the GS2, GS3, and GS6 service history would be greatly appreciated.
